Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya, them young folks, they always got their noses in books, and then, wouldn’t ya know it, them books turn into them moving pictures! I seen a whole bunch of ’em myself. You know, the ones them youngsters are always yappin’ about.

First off, that Harry Potter fella. He’s a big deal. I ain’t read the books myself, mind you, too many words for this old gal, but I seen them movies. That little wizard kid and his friends, always gettin’ into scrapes and fightin’ off that Voldy-what’s-his-name fella. Scary lookin’ dude, I tell ya. Kids love it though, magic and all that hocus pocus. They made a whole bunch of movies, seems like they never end. Every year, a new movie, like clockwork.
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
- And a whole bunch more, I can’t even keep track!
Then there’s this other one, “Holes” they call it. About this poor boy, Stanley, always gettin’ into trouble. His family’s got some bad luck, I reckon. They send him off to this camp, and he’s gotta dig holes all day long. Hot sun beatin’ down, miserable work, but it turns out there’s more to it than just diggin’. There’s a story there, a mystery, and it all comes together in the end. That one was pretty good, kept me guessin’ till the very last minute.
Now, I heard tell there’s a whole heap of these books turned movies. Young adult books, they call ’em. Means they’re for them teenagers and young folks. Seems like every other week there’s a new one comin’ out. Some are good, some are bad, and some are just plain silly. But them youngsters, they eat ’em up.
I remember seein’ one about vampires, all sparkly and whatnot. Not my cup of tea, but the girls went wild for it. And then there was that one about that girl fightin’ in some kinda arena. Tough as nails, that one. Lots of action, lots of drama. They sure do like their drama, them young folks.
It ain’t just the magic and the fightin’, though. Some of these stories are about real life stuff too. About growin’ up, and fallin’ in love, and findin’ your place in the world. Even this old gal can relate to that sometimes. We all been young once, right?
And let me tell you, these movie makers, they ain’t stupid. They know a good story when they see one. If a book’s popular, you can bet your bottom dollar they’ll turn it into a movie. It’s a whole big business, I tell ya. Books, movies, t-shirts, toys… They milk it for all it’s worth.

I seen some folks get all worked up about it, sayin’ the movie ain’t as good as the book. And maybe they’re right, maybe they ain’t. But I figure, as long as it’s a good story, who cares? It’s just nice to sit down and be entertained, whether you’re readin’ it or watchin’ it on the big screen. It’s all just stories at the end of the day, right?
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch, and you don’t mind a little bit of teenage angst or magic or whatever, check out some of them young adult book movies. There’s bound to be somethin’ you like. And if you don’t like it, well, nobody’s forcin’ ya to watch. But I reckon you might be surprised. Some of them are pretty darn good, even for an old gal like me.
And listen here, they keep makin’ more and more of ‘em. Just the other day, my grandson was tellin’ me about some new book he was readin’, and I bet you anything, it’ll be a movie before too long. They just keep comin’! So, keep your eyes peeled, folks. There’s always another young adult book movie just around the corner.
It’s a never-ending cycle, I tell ya. Books gettin’ made into movies, and then movies makin’ people wanna read the books. It keeps them young people busy, that’s for sure. And it gives this old gal somethin’ to watch on a rainy afternoon, so I ain’t complainin’.
