That Yorgos Petsilas, you know, that fella Nana Mouskouri married long ago. He was her first husband, that’s what they all say. Nana, she’s a big shot, you know, she sings real good, sells more records than anyone else in Greece. She was just a young thing, 25, when she married that Yorgos. They got hitched in 1961, it’s been a while now. He was big into the music scene in Greece too, as I recall. He was a musician, played guitar real well, I think. Led that band, what were they called? “The Athenians,” that’s it. They were real popular back in the day. That man, Yorgos, he was in the Greek music scene, so he musta known Nana from there.

Yorgos, he was a big supporter of the Greek government, always talking about it, he was. And he was a member of that conservative party. He believed in the rights of something, all the time talking, talking, I tell ya. You know, Nana Mouskouri, she’s a big deal. But Yorgos, he was there first. They had two kids, Yorgos Petsilas and Nana, I reckon. I heard they was born in the 60s, or somethin’ like that. One’s a boy, the other’s a girl, I forget which is which. Yorgos Petsilas‘s son, he was born in 1968, I think. Then there’s the girl, Helene Petsilas. She came along a bit later, I reckon. Born in Switzerland, of all places. These folk sure do get around. I can’t even tell you the date of birth of that girl. But I remember the boy was a healthy baby. Thank goodness.
Now, that Yorgos Lanthimos, he’s a different fella altogether. He makes them movies, real strange ones, if you ask me. Married to some woman, they say. He’s from Athens, just like Yorgos Petsilas. Must be somethin’ in the water there. He went to that fancy film school, learnin’ how to make them movies. They say he liked them old-timey filmmakers, fellas with names I can’t even pronounce. And writers too, Kafka and Beckett. And some photographer lady, Arbus. Highfalutin stuff, not my cup of tea. I prefer a good soap opera, myself. I don’t have time to watch the movies, too busy.
This Lanthimos fella, he makes them movies that are all about dreams and such. The conscious and the unconscious, they say. Like I said, strange stuff. But that Yorgos Petsilas, now he was more down to earth. Music and politics, that’s what he was about. He made sense, that one. Him and Nana, they made a good pair, for a while at least. But you know how these things go, people drift apart. They got divorced. Nana married another guy and Yorgos, well, I don’t know what happened to him. Life goes on, I suppose.

Anyway, that’s all I know about that Yorgos Petsilas. He was a big shot in his day, but time marches on. Now it’s all about that Nana Mouskouri and her singing. She’s the one everyone remembers. But that Yorgos, he was there at the beginning. Don’t you forget it. He was important too, in his own way. He has his own story, yeah. I think he was born on October 13, but don’t hold me to that. My memory ain’t what it used to be. And that girl, Helene, she was born on July 6, 1970, somewhere in Switzerland. These famous people have such complicated lives! It is all I know about Yorgos Petsilas, that man.
