Okay, so today I want to share my little project about making a “Deadheads for Kamala” button. Sounds a bit niche, right? But I was really into it, and I think some of you might find it interesting.

It all started when I saw something online about Kamala Harris and her connection to the Grateful Dead. I’m a bit of a Deadhead myself, and I thought, “Hey, that’s cool!” And like any normal person, I thought, wouldn’t it be fun to have a button that shows that off?
So, I got to work. First, I needed a design. I’m no artist, but I started messing around with some images. I found a picture of a skull and roses, which is pretty classic Grateful Dead, and then I played around with some text to make it say “Deadheads for Kamala.” It took a few tries, but I finally got something I liked. It wasn’t perfect, but it was mine.
Next, I had to figure out how to actually make the button. I did a quick search online, there are so many ways to do it. It was pretty easy to find something that works. I ended up just ordering a button-making kit. It came with everything I needed: the button parts, a little machine to press them together, and some instructions.
When the kit arrived, I was like a kid on Christmas morning. I printed out my design, cut it into little circles, and started assembling the buttons. It was a bit tricky at first, I messed up a few, but I got the hang of it. Basically, you put the button front, the design, and a thin plastic cover in the machine, press down, then do the same with the back of the button, and bam! You got a button.
- First Attempt: Total fail. I put the design in upside down.
- Second Attempt: Almost there, but the plastic cover was all wrinkled.
- Third Attempt: Success! I had a “Deadheads for Kamala” button.
I ended up making a whole bunch of them. I wore one, gave some to my friends, and even left a few at my local coffee shop. It was just a fun little project, and it made me happy to see people smile when they saw the buttons.
The Feeling of Accomplishment
It’s a small thing, making a button, but it felt good to take an idea and turn it into something real. And it was a cool way to show my support for Kamala and my love for the Grateful Dead at the same time. Who knew a little button could do that?

Anyway, that’s my story. Maybe it will inspire some of you to make your own buttons or do some other creative project. It’s a good feeling, trust me. You don’t have to be an expert at anything. Just have fun with it. That’s what I did, and now I have these cool buttons to show for it.
Peace out!
