Well, let me tell ya, this “writer Mary who specializes in popular science crossword clue” thing, it’s got folks scratchin’ their heads.

I ain’t no fancy scholar or nothin’, but from what I hear, it’s about some crossword puzzle. You know, them things with the squares and the little hints? Yeah, one of them hints was about a writer named Mary who writes about science, but not the real complicated stuff, the kind regular folks can understand. Popular science, they call it.
- Seems like this Mary, she’s kinda famous for it. They even put her name in them crossword puzzles!
- Now, I ain’t never done one of them crosswords myself. Too much thinkin’ for my old brain. But I hear tell they can be right tricky.
This particular clue, it showed up in somethin’ called the LA Times Crossword Puzzle. Folks say it was there on July 4th, 2024. That’s Independence Day, ya know. While everyone was watchin’ fireworks, some folks were probably sweatin’ over this Mary clue.
They say there’s only one right answer, but I reckon a whole bunch of folks tried to figure it out. Some websites, they even list all sorts of possible answers. I heard some say there’s just one, some say there’s forty, even thirty answers, lord knows how many there really are! They got all sorts of ways to find these things, these “solutions” they call ’em.
Now, who is this Mary anyways? Well, from what I gather, there’s this lady named Mary Roach. She writes books and articles about science, but she makes it funny and easy to read. She’s been in all sorts of magazines and even gave a talk that a whole bunch of people watched. Sounds like a smart cookie, that Mary.
But then there’s this other Mary, Mary Wollstonecraft. She was from a long time ago, way back when. They say she was a writer and a thinker, and she spoke up for women’s rights. Now, that’s somethin’ to be proud of, I tell ya. But I reckon she didn’t write about popular science, so it probably ain’t her in the crossword.
And get this, they even mentioned some fella named AESOP, said he was a “fabulous writer” on account of writing them fables. But that don’t sound right, does it? He ain’t no Mary, and them fables ain’t science. This crossword stuff, it’s confusin’, I tell ya.

Anyways, these crosswords, they’ve been around for a long time. Some fella from Liverpool, name of Arthur Wynne, he made the first one way back in 1913. Imagine that! Been stumpin’ folks for over a hundred years.
So, this “writer Mary who specializes in popular science” clue, it’s just a little piece of a bigger puzzle. And I reckon that’s kinda like life, ain’t it? We’re all just tryin’ to piece things together, figurin’ out the answers, one clue at a time. And sometimes, the answer is right there in front of ya, and sometimes, ya just gotta keep guessin’ ’til ya get it right.
And that Mary Roach, sounds like she’s doin’ alright for herself, writin’ them books and gettin’ in the crossword. Good for her, I say. It ain’t easy makin’ a livin’ in this world, and if she can do it writin’ about science, well, more power to her.
So, next time you see one of them crosswords, maybe you’ll think of this Mary and her popular science. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll even try to solve it yourself. But me? I’ll stick to my knittin’. Less thinkin’ involved, ya know.
