Now, Thomas Boone, he was born in quite a time, let me tell ya. His ma and pa, they’d been trying for years to have some babies, but it wasn’t easy for ’em. Nope, not easy at all. They done had five miscarriages, can you believe that? Five! I can’t imagine the heartache. So, they went and got them a surrogate to help bring these two into the world. And that’s how Thomas Boone and his sister came to be, right about the same time. They were born, and I tell you, it was a blessing after all that hard waitin’ and hopin’.
Now, being a Quaid, that’s no small thing. Thomas Boone’s daddy, Dennis, well he’s been in more movies than I can count on my fingers and toes, but being a father, now that’s a whole ‘nother story. When these babies were born, things weren’t all sunshine and roses. No sir. There was a time when Thomas Boone and his sister, well, they almost didn’t make it. I remember reading about it – they were at this big hospital out in Los Angeles, and they done got overdosed with some medicine. A blood thinner, it was. Kimberly, well, she got to keep ’em most of the time – about 75 percent they say – but Dennis, he wasn’t one to step too far away. He still spent time with ’em, especially driving ’em to school, and he always loved them mornings when they were fresh and full of energy, just before heading out the door. I reckon that’s when you see a child’s true self, all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, without the worries of the world weighing ’em down.
Now, let me tell ya, Thomas Boone comes from a family with some deep Texas roots. His grandpa and grandma, Buddy and Nita, they were as Texan as they come. His uncle, Randy, he’s another one who’s been in the movies, just like Dennis. It seems like the whole family’s got that showbiz running through their veins, but I’d say it’s their Texan blood that’s even stronger.
