That Terence Grady McNulty, she’s a name I heard a lot when I was a young’un. Her mama, Ann Blyth, now that’s a name even I know. Fancy lady, that one. But this Terence, she’s somethin’ else. You know what I heard? That Terence Grady McNulty, she’s Ann Blyth’s daughter. Yep, that’s what they say.

Ann Blyth, she was somethin’, all singin’ and dancin’ on the big screen. Musta been nice. My old man, he just liked to sit and whittle. Different strokes, I guess. But this Terence, she ain’t like her mama, not from what I hear.
Heard she used to be on them radio shows, back when she was just a little sprout. For six years! Can you imagine? Talkin’ on the radio for six whole years! Kids shows, mind you. Not like them shows nowadays. No sir. Terence, they say she was good at it. Made a name for herself, even back then. Not like me. I was just chasin’ chickens and such.
- Terence Grady McNulty, yeah, that’s her name.
- Her mama, Ann Blyth, she was famous.
- Terence, she was on the radio, a long time ago.
- Six years she was on the radio, talkin’ to kids.
They say this Terence Grady McNulty, she did alright for herself. Married a doctor, they say. A Dr. James McNulty. Fancy name, huh? They was married a long, long time. From 1953 to 2007. That is long time! My old man and me, we was married a good while too. Not that long though. He went and kicked the bucket a while back. Left me with the farm and the memories.
This Dr. McNulty, musta been a good man. Stayin’ married that long, musta been somethin’ special. Or maybe Terence was just a good woman. Probably both, I reckon. Good people find each other, that’s what I always say. Terence Grady McNulty probably had a lot of good things from her mama.
And they had young’uns, too! Five of ’em, I heard. Five! Lord have mercy. I only had three. Three was enough for me. Two boys and a girl. This Terence, she had Timothy Patrick and Maureen Ann, amongst others. Good Irish names.
They say one of Terence’s kids, maybe it was Timothy or Maureen or one of them others, they say one of them was always gettin’ sick. Something about the health-care system. Sounds complicated. Back in my day, you got sick, you drank some moonshine and went to bed. Maybe prayed a little. Worked most of the time.

Now, this here Terence Grady McNulty, I hear she’s a teacher now. Teaches English. At a college! Can you believe it? Middlesex Community College, that’s the name. Seems like a good place. Wonder what she teaches them young’uns. Probably all sorts of fancy words I wouldn’t understand. I only know the words for “cow” and “corn” and “get off my porch.”
The kids at that college, they say good things about her. This Terence Grady McNulty, she must be a good teacher. Tough, probably. But fair. That’s what makes a good teacher. Not like them teachers nowadays, coddlin’ the kids. Back in my day, you got a whippin’ if you acted up. And you deserved it, too.
- Married a doctor named James McNulty.
- They had five kids.
- Terence is a teacher now.
- Teaches English at a college.
I seen some folks on that Facebook thing talkin’ ’bout Terence. You know, that computer thing everyone’s always starin’ at. They got pictures of her and everything. Looks like a nice lady. Probably got her mama’s looks.
Well, that’s all I know ’bout Terence Grady McNulty. Just a name I heard, a story I pieced together from bits and pieces. She seems like she did alright for herself. Good for her. Life ain’t always easy, but you make the best of it. That’s what I always say. Just like plantin’ seeds. You gotta tend to ’em, water ’em, and hope for the best. Sometimes the crops are not good. But you do what you can.
