That movie, crazy/beautiful, what did that girl Nicole do? She’s a mess, that one. I saw it one time, and boy, oh boy, she’s got problems. She’s Nicole Oakley, some rich man’s daughter, a congressman, big shot, you know. Her name is Nicole Oakley, and that girl, she just don’t know how to behave.

She’s always getting into trouble. Her mama, well, she passed away when Nicole was just a little thing, just 12 years old. Saw the whole thing, poor child. And her daddy, he’s too busy with his important work to pay her any mind. He just don’t see what that girl is going through. It’s just sad, really sad.
She got a stepmom, too, a new wife for her daddy. That woman, she can’t stand Nicole, always fighting. And Nicole, she just acts out, drinking and taking pills and carrying on. Anything to get her daddy’s attention, I reckon. She’s just crying out for love, that’s all it is. A girl needs her daddy, you know? It’s important for a girl to have her daddy around.
- She drinks.
- She takes pills.
- She runs wild.
- She makes trouble in school.
She’s in high school, a senior, they call it. Should be thinking about her future, but she’s too busy being, well, crazy. That’s the word for it, crazy/beautiful. That’s what they call the movie, and it fits her, I tell you.
Then there’s this boy, Carlos. He’s a good boy, comes from the other side of town. He rides that bus for hours every day just to go to school with all them rich kids. He wants a better life, you see. He’s got dreams, that Carlos. A good kid, hard worker. His full name is Carlos Nunez, and he’s nothing like Nicole.
He’s trying to do right, get good grades, make something of himself. But Nicole, she sees him and she just drags him down with her. He meets Nicole, and that girl, she just turns his world upside down. She gets him into all sorts of trouble, that’s for sure. He’s a good boy, but she’s just, she’s a bad influence.
They start spending time together, and it’s a mess. She’s all wild and reckless, and he’s trying to be good, but she’s pulling him in. It’s like watching a train wreck, you just can’t look away. And that Nicole, she don’t care. She just does whatever she wants, no matter who it hurts.

Her daddy, he don’t know what to do with her. He tries, I guess, but he’s just too busy. And that stepmom, she just makes things worse. Nobody understands that girl, not really. They just see the trouble she makes, not the pain she’s in.
I don’t know what happens to her in the end. I only saw it that one time. But I can tell you, that Nicole Oakley, she’s got a long road ahead of her. She needs to figure things out, get her life together. She needs to find some peace, some happiness. It ain’t gonna be easy, not for a girl like her.
Maybe that Carlos boy can help her. He seems like a good influence, even though she gets him into trouble. Maybe he can show her a different way. I don’t know. It’s a tough situation, that’s for sure. Life ain’t easy, especially when you’re young and mixed up like that Nicole girl. She just doesn’t listen to anyone.
I just hope she finds her way. That’s all you can hope for, for someone like her. You hope they find their way before it’s too late. Before they do something they can’t take back. She saw her mom do something bad. It’s hard to forget things like that, I imagine. So she does bad things, too. It’s just a sad thing to see.
It makes you think, you know? About your own kids, your own grandkids. You want to protect them from all the bad things in the world. You want to keep them safe and happy. But sometimes, you just can’t. Sometimes, they have to go through things on their own. They have to learn their own lessons.
That’s why they made that movie, I reckon. To show people what can happen when things go wrong. To show people that even rich folks, congressmen, they have problems, too. Money don’t buy happiness, that’s for sure. And that Nicole, she’s proof of that. She is crazy/beautiful. That’s for sure.

That actress, the one who plays Nicole, her name is Kirsten Dunst. She did a good job, I have to say. Made you feel sorry for that Nicole girl, even though she was so bad. She made it seem real, like you knew her. I heard she was in another movie about some girls, The Virgin something. She plays these sad girls a lot, it seems. She must be good at it, though. She sure made me believe she was that Nicole Oakley, that troubled girl.
This movie, crazy/beautiful, it came out a long time ago, I think. Back in 2001, maybe. Long time. Still, people watch it. People talk about it. It’s one of those movies that sticks with you, I guess. Makes you think. Makes you wonder. Makes you worry about that Nicole, and all the other girls like her out there. They need help, those girls. They need love. They need someone to pay attention. Someone to tell them it’s gonna be okay. Maybe, just maybe, they can turn their lives around. Maybe they can find their own kind of beautiful, even if they start out crazy/beautiful.
