Oh, let me tell ya, there’s some downright strange stuff in that ol’ Star Wars EU. Back in the day, before they cleaned it all up and called it “canon” and “not canon,” they had themselves a whole heap of tales, and some of ’em? Just plain weird. Ain’t nothin’ like the usual Star Wars stuff you see in the movies now. The folks in charge wanted to simplify it all, I reckon, make it easier for us regular folks. But ya gotta wonder what they were thinkin’ when they wrote some of this.
1. Boba Fett’s Wild Toy
Now, lemme tell ya about Boba Fett. He’s one popular fella, ain’t he? There was a toy of him, special-like, with a rocket that actually fired off! Folks loved it so much that now it’s worth a mighty sum – over $200,000, can you believe that? Just a tiny bit of plastic, and they’re payin’ enough to buy a house for it! Ain’t nothin’ that tells ya how popular a character is more than that.
2. Those Geonosians and Their Death Star Plans
Now this here’s a strange one. There’s these critters called Geonosians, little insect-lookin’ things with wings, living all close together in big nests. Now, them fellas, they got together with the Separatists, conspired a bit, and started draftin’ plans for somethin’ we all know as the Death Star. Yep, that big round thing that goes BOOM! Imagine that – a bunch of bugs comin’ up with somethin’ that dangerous. But it happened, at least in that EU world. And I reckon that’s somethin’ you wouldn’t hear anywhere else!
3. The Jedi Prime and All That Strange Jedi History
Now, folks say the Jedi had all kinds of strange history before the “canon” and “not canon” fuss. There was one book that talked ’bout somethin’ called the Jedi Prime – they was the first Jedi, ya know? But there was just so much goin’ on in that story that ya wonder how anyone kept up. I heard one fella even called it the strangest thing he ever read, and he was deep into Star Wars too! Guess they just liked goin’ off in strange directions back then.
4. The Umgullian Blob – Quite a Little Critter
Oh, and you ever heard of the Umgullian blob? Sounds funny, don’t it? It’s just a little blob creature from a planet called Umgul. Now, ya might think, “What’s a blob doin’ in a Star Wars story?” But that’s the EU for ya! They even had it racing against others, sort of like them space horses they got now. Seems like folks really had an imagination back then.
5. The Planet of Mandalore and Them Mandalorians
Mandalorians, they’re some real important folks now, thanks to that fella with the helmet on Disney+. But the whole Mandalorian planet and folks were first put in the story way back in the ‘80s! Folks in the EU were writin’ ‘bout ‘em in comic books, can ya believe? Of course, some details got changed up when they made it official, but those early tales are somethin’ else. Bet they didn’t think those helmet-wearin’ folks would get so famous back then!
6. Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice
Now here’s somethin’ you wouldn’t expect. There was this tale about Darth Vader havin’ a secret apprentice. They called him Starkiller. It was supposed to be a hush-hush thing, ya know? Vader wanted him as his little sidekick to overthrow the Emperor. Now, it sounds like a good story and all, but it sure is strange thinkin’ ’bout Vader havin’ an apprentice. You don’t get that feelin’ in the movies, do ya?
7. Thrawn – A Blue-Skinned Fella with a Lotta Brains
Ah, Thrawn – now, here’s a name that folks know. He’s the blue-skinned fella, all smart and tactical. The EU made him into a genius villain who caused the Rebels all sorts of trouble. And people loved him so much they even brought him into the new stories! But back then, he was just part of that strange old EU, and folks were happy just to read ’bout him there. Funny how some characters make such an impression.
8. Clone Madness
And there was clone craziness too, all kinds of clones runnin’ around. They had a clone of Luke – called him Luuke, with two “u”s! Now, ain’t that somethin’? I suppose they were runnin’ outta ideas or just havin’ fun. Just imagine if ya met a second version of yourself with a funny name like that! Not everyone liked this idea, but it sure got folks talkin’.
9. Mysterious Creatures and Other Odd Beasts
Course, it wasn’t just folks and planets that got strange – there was a whole lotta critters out there too! There was somethin’ called a Waru, some otherworldly creature that didn’t fit in with the Star Wars world too well. Folks either loved it or thought it was just plain odd. But that’s what made the EU what it was, ya know? A big ol’ mix of strange ideas and crazy tales.
10. The EU Lives On, Sorta
So, even though they went and made some of this stuff “non-canon,” folks still talk ’bout the EU. Some of them stories, they’re just too strange to forget. People liked that wild imagination, ya know? And while the new stories are simpler and all, there’ll always be folks who miss the craziness of the EU. Some even want them tales brought back, though I reckon they’d have to smooth ’em out a bit.
So that’s that, a little peek into some of the strangest Star Wars tales ya ever heard! They might not all make sense, but they’re sure fun to think ’bout.
