Alright, alright, let’s talk about them drummers, the fellas who bang on them pots and pans and make all that noise. You know, the ones that make your feet tap and your head bob. Someone told me these fancy folks call it “rolling stone greatest drummers.” Don’t know what that means, but I guess it means the best of the bunch.

So, first up is this fella, John Bonham. Now, they say he’s been bangin’ on them drums since he was just a little tyke, barely out of diapers. Two years old, they say! Can you imagine? Two years old and already makin’ a racket. He must’ve driven his poor mama crazy. But boy, could he play! He was in some band, somethin’ with a “Zeppelin,” like them big airships. Made a whole lotta noise, that band did. Folks went wild for it. He was loud, real loud, but it was a good loud, you know? The kind that makes you wanna get up and dance, or maybe just stomp your feet real hard.
- He started playing real young.
- He played in a band with a funny name.
- Folks liked his loud playin’.
Then there’s this other fella, Neil Peart. Now, his band was different, not as loud as that Zeppelin fella’s band. They called it “Rush.” Don’t know why, maybe they were always in a hurry. He was a smart fella, this Neil, always readin’ books and thinkin’ deep thoughts. And you could tell it in his drummin’. It wasn’t just bang, bang, bang. It was… complicated. Like he was tellin’ a story with them drums. My grandson, he listens to this Rush band, and he says it’s real “prog-something.” I don’t understand that fancy talk, but I get it. It ain’t just noise, it’s got somethin’ to it. It makes you think, even if you don’t know what you’re thinkin’ about.
I heard folks say there are other good drummers too. Lots of ’em, apparently. There’s this fella, Keith Moon. They say he was wild, a real crazy one. Played like he was gonna break them drums every time. And then there’s Ginger Baker, he played with some fellas who were real good with guitars. And Ringo Starr, everyone knows him, the one with the funny nose from that bug band. He kept it simple, but it worked, didn’t it? They all had their own way of doin’ things, their own way of makin’ that noise. But they all had one thing in common: they made folks happy. Or at least made folks tap their feet. And that’s what matters, ain’t it?
So, who’s the best? Well, I don’t rightly know. It’s like askin’ who makes the best apple pie. Everyone’s got their own taste, their own favorite. Some like it loud, some like it fancy, some like it simple. But as long as it tastes good, or sounds good, I reckon it don’t matter too much. All them drummers, they were good at what they did. They made music, and they made people happy. And that’s good enough for me.
You know, it’s funny, all these years, and folks are still talkin’ about these drummers. Still arguin’ about who’s the best. Guess that means they must’ve been somethin’ special, huh? Leavin’ their mark on the world, one beat at a time. Just like my grandma used to say, “Good things stay, bad things go away” and I reckon these drummers made good things, good loud music. That’s what I think about it anyways. Now, where’s my tea?
Anyways, that’s my two cents on them drummers. Don’t know if it makes any sense, but that’s the way I see it. They played drums, folks liked it, end of story. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens.

And just so you young folks understand what this old lady is talkin’ about here’s a bit of a list for ya’:
- John Bonham: Loud and powerful.
- Neil Peart: Smart and complicated.
- Keith Moon: Wild and crazy.
- Ginger Baker: Played with good guitar fellas.
- Ringo Starr: Simple, but good.
There ya go. Now go listen to some music, you hear?
