Oh, let me tell ya, this here anime, My Deer Friend Nokotan, it’s somethin’ alright! Y’see, it ain’t yer usual story ’bout high school, no ma’am. We got this gal, Torako Koshi, a fancy-soundin’ student over at Hino Minami High. Now, she’s all prim and proper on the outside, actin’ all sweet and nice like a big ol’ piece of honey cake. But deep down, that gal has herself a past that’s a mite rough around the edges! Yes siree, she weren’t always the ‘perfect’ honor student folks see her as now.
So then what happens? Well, things get real interestin’ when this new gal shows up. Now, ya gotta keep in mind, this ain’t just any ol’ new student. No sir! This one’s called Noko Shikanoko – but lemme tell ya, she ain’t even a real gal! She’s a Sika deer in human form! Imagine that! A deer! Now who’d’ve thunk it, right? The kids these days got imaginations I tell ya. Noko’s tryin’ to blend in like a regular ol’ student, but Lord, that’s easier said than done.
So poor ol’ Torako’s tryin’ to keep her own life straight and quiet-like, but with Noko in her world now, hoo boy, there ain’t no more quiet. Torako’s tryin’ to keep things nice and hidden, but Noko is like a big ol’ wreckin’ ball. Just the kind of critter that makes trouble come runnin’. She’s a bit on the odd side too, if ya ask me. Got this funny way a’ talkin’. Always sayin’ “Notsu” this and “Notsu” that – kinda makes ya wonder if she even knows how humans talk at all.
Now, lemme tell ya a bit more ’bout this “Notsu” business. See, that word she says all the time? Well, it actually means “antler” if ya switch the sounds up a bit. Ain’t that clever? For a critter with hooves, she’s got her own way of doin’ things, I’ll give her that. Now, poor Noko has some quirks too, somethin’ fierce. Can ya believe she’s scared of them ol’ plastic water bottles? Somethin’ ’bout ‘em just spooks her somethin’ awful. Ya show her a bottle, and she’ll bolt like a deer in headlights! Must be somethin’ deep down that rattles her, I reckon.
As the story moseys along, ya see Torako and Noko tryin’ to fit in with the other students, and that ain’t no easy task. The other kids don’t know ’bout Noko bein’ a deer, and well, they just think she’s a bit strange. Torako, she’s got her own struggles keepin’ this all under wraps, but bit by bit, they both learn a thing or two ’bout friendship. A strange one, that’s for sure, but that’s what makes it a fun watch. They’re like peas in a pod even though one’s got antlers and the other’s got secrets!
