Okay, so I decided to make a list of my top alternative songs for 2023. It’s something I do every year, just for fun, to keep track of what I’ve been listening to.
Step 1: Gathering My Listening Data
First, I opened up my most-used music apps. I mainly use a couple of different ones to stream music.
I went through my “Liked Songs” and “Recently Played” sections on each app. This is where I usually find most of the stuff I listen to.
Step 2: The Initial List
I started a new note on my phone and just dumped every song that I thought might be a contender. I didn’t worry too much about whether it was truly “alternative” or not. I just wanted to get everything down.
Step 3: Narrowing It Down
This part took a while!I listened through the whole long list, skipping around, re-listening to parts, and really thinking about which songs really stuck with me throughout the * were easy to cut—they might have been earworms for a week, but didn’t really have staying power. I am looking for those songs that I keep playing.
- Did I keep coming back to this song?
- Did it make me feel something?
- Did I find myself sharing it with friends?
Step 4: Finalizing and ordering
I just put my top songs list to my phone notes, and organized it!
So, that’s pretty much it. It is a simple way I keep track of my music and discover new favorites every year.
