Alright, listen up, y’all! We’re gonna talk about them guitar pickers, the best of the best, you know? The ones that make that guitar sing like a bird and howl like a dog, all at the same time. Some magazine folks, they made a list, a big one, a hundred of ’em! I ain’t seen that many chickens in one place, let alone guitar players, but they say these are the tops.

First off, they got this fella, Jimi Hendrix. Now, I ain’t never seen him play in person, but they say he was somethin’ else. Made noises with that guitar nobody ever heard before. Like a firecracker going off in a tin can, but in a good way, ya know? They say he’s the greatest, the most influential and all that fancy talk. He sure could make that guitar screech and wail.
Then there’s a whole bunch of others, some I heard of, some I ain’t. They got fellas like Eric Clapton. He’s been around a long time, plays the blues, real smooth like butter on a hot biscuit. And Jeff Beck, another one, they say he’s a wizard with that guitar, makes it do tricks you wouldn’t believe. Like pullin’ a rabbit outta a hat, but with music.
And don’t forget about them fellas from the Rolling Stones, Keith Richards, yeah, that’s him. He plays them chords, simple but strong, like a good cup of coffee. Kept that band goin’ for ages, that’s somethin’ ain’t it? And then there’s Jimmy Page, from that band with all the loud noise, Led Zeppelin, they call ’em. He could play fast, real fast, like a chicken pecking corn, but every note clear as a bell.
- Chuck Berry, now he’s one I know! Duckwalkin’ and playin’ that guitar, made everyone wanna get up and dance. Real lively music, gets your feet tappin’ and your heart thumpin’.
- And B.B. King, the blues man, with that guitar he called Lucille. He could make that thing cry, make you feel things you didn’t even know you had in ya. He played slow, but every note meant somethin’.
- Then there’s Stevie Ray Vaughan, another blues fella. Played fast and hard, like a runaway train, but always in control. Burned bright, but burned out too soon, like a match in the wind.
They got some newer fellas on that list too, ones the young folks listen to. I don’t know ’em all, but they say they’re good. They play all kinds of stuff, rock and roll, metal, country, you name it. It just goes to show, that guitar, it can do just about anything you want it to, long as you got the hands to make it sing.
This list, it’s got all sorts, from the pioneers, the ones that started it all, to the new kids on the block, pushin’ the boundaries and makin’ new sounds. They all got somethin’ special, somethin’ that makes them stand out from the crowd. Technical stuff, they call it, and emotional, too. Like pourin’ your heart out, but with a guitar instead of words. That’s what makes ‘em legends, I guess.
It ain’t just about playin’ fast or loud, though some of ’em sure do that. It’s about feelin’ the music, about makin’ that guitar an extension of yourself. Like it’s talkin’ for you, sayin’ things you can’t put into words. These guitar players, they got that gift, that magic touch. They can take six strings and a piece of wood and turn it into somethin’ beautiful, somethin’ powerful, somethin’ that can move your soul.

So, there you have it, a hundred guitar players, the best they say. I ain’t gonna argue with ’em. They know more about this stuff than I do. But one thing I know for sure, that guitar, it’s a powerful thing. It can make you laugh, make you cry, make you wanna get up and dance, or just sit and listen. And these fellas, they know how to use it. They’re the masters, the guitar heroes, and their music will live on long after they’re gone, like echoes in the holler.
