Alright, alright, lemme tell ya ’bout this Soccer Mommy and her new thing, “Evergreen”. Heard it on the radio the other day while I was washin’ dishes. Kids these days, always makin’ a racket, but this one, this one kinda stuck.

First off, this girl, Sophia Regina Allison, or whatever they call her, Soccer Mommy, she’s got a voice. Not like them loud singers on the TV, more like… well, like she’s singin’ right there in your kitchen. It’s kinda pretty, in a sad sorta way. Like a rainy day, ya know?
The whole album, “Evergreen”, it’s… it’s slow, mostly. Not the kind of music you’d dance to at a barn raisin’, that’s for sure. But it’s got somethin’ to it. My old man, he used to say some songs just sink into ya, like water into dry ground. This “Evergreen” stuff, it’s like that.
- The songs, they ain’t all happy-go-lucky, mind you. Lots of talk about feelin’ down, feelin’ lost. Reminds me of that time the cow got out and we spent all night lookin’ for her in the woods. That feelin’ of not knowin’ where to go, ya know?
- But then, there’s these little bits of sunshine, too. Like a flower pokin’ through the snow. A little bit of hope, even when things are tough. That’s somethin’ I can appreciate. Life ain’t always easy, that’s for darn sure.
They say this is her fourth album. Fourth! That’s a lot of singin’. Guess she’s been at it a while. And you can tell, too. She ain’t just makin’ noise, she’s tellin’ stories. Stories about growin’ up, about losin’ things, about findin’ your way.
Now, I ain’t no music critic, don’t know all them fancy words they use. But I know what I like. And I like this “Evergreen”. It’s real, ya know? Not all fake and shiny like some of that stuff on the radio. It’s like she’s been through some stuff, and she’s singin’ about it. And that, well, that’s somethin’ worth listenin’ to.
Some folks say it’s got an “autumn” feel to it. I guess I can see that. Kinda like when the leaves start to fall, and the days get shorter. A little bit melancholy, but beautiful, too. Like lookin’ at the sunset over the fields after a long day’s work.
They also say it’s “delicate” and “considered.” Well, I don’t know about all them big words, but it sure sounds like she put her heart into it. You can hear it in her voice, in the way the music flows. It ain’t rushed, it ain’t forced. It just…is.

And that’s what I like about it most, I reckon. It’s honest. It ain’t tryin’ to be somethin’ it ain’t. It’s just a girl singin’ about life, the good and the bad. And sometimes, that’s all you need, ya know? Just a little bit of honesty in a world that’s full of lies.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to listen to while you’re sittin’ on the porch, sippin’ your tea, give this Soccer Mommy a try. “Evergreen”. It ain’t gonna get you up and dancin’, but it might just make you feel a little bit better about things. And sometimes, that’s enough.
One last thing, this girl, Soccer Mommy, she’s got a real talent. Don’t let the name fool ya, this ain’t no kids’ stuff. This is music for folks who’ve lived a little, who’ve seen a thing or two. And that, to me, is somethin’ special.
