Okay, so the other day I was thinking, I’ve watched “Alaska Daily” like a million times already. It’s a great show, don’t get me wrong, but I needed something new, yet something similar, you know?

So, I started digging around. First, I just Googled “shows like Alaska Daily.” I know, super original, right? But hey, it’s a start. That gave me a bunch of articles and lists, some talking about other TV shows, some weirdly about songs, but whatever.
I skimmed through a few of those lists, and I noticed some titles popping up more than others. Stuff like “Northern Exposure,” which I’d heard of but never watched. There was also something called “An Idiot Abroad” that had some guy named Karl Pilkington going to Alaska. That sounded kind of funny, so I made a note of it.
- Northern Exposure
- An Idiot Abroad
Then, I saw a mention of “Alaska Public Media movies and shows.” I figured they’d have some good suggestions, being from Alaska and all. They didn’t, not exactly what I am looking for.
I also found some forums and places where people were talking about this kind of thing. Someone mentioned they liked “Looking for Alaska” and some other movie called “500 Days of Summer.” They said they had a similar “hippie, poetic, sad” vibe. I don’t know about all that, but I wrote them down anyway. People were also voting on shows and leaving comments, which was kind of helpful.
After a while, I had this big messy list of shows. Some sounded interesting, some not so much. I figured I’d start with the ones that came up the most, like “Northern Exposure.”
So, I went on to look for where I could watch these shows. The articles mentioned places like Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon. I checked my subscriptions to see which ones I already had.

What I Watched
I ended up watching a couple of episodes of “Northern Exposure” first, since it seemed the most similar to “Alaska Daily.” It was a bit older, but I could see the resemblance. I’ll probably keep watching it.
I also tried that “An Idiot Abroad” thing, just out of curiosity. It was pretty different, more of a comedy travel show, but it was entertaining in its own way. I watched the Alaska episode, and it was a good laugh. I do not think I will try other episodes.
And that’s where I am now. I’ve got a few other shows from my list that I might check out later. It’s a work in progress, but hey, at least I’ve got some new stuff to watch that’s kind of like “Alaska Daily.” Mission accomplished, I guess.
