Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another movie list. Today, I’m diving into the scariest films of 2012. Man, 2012 was a wild year for horror flicks, wasn’t it? So many good ones, it took me a while to sort this out.
First off, I started by hitting up Google, just typing in “scariest films of 2012.” I got a bunch of results, some were pretty generic, but others had some interesting picks. I skimmed through a few articles, trying to get a feel for what people thought were the real standouts.
Then, I went over to Letterboxd. You know, that site where everyone logs what they watched? Found a couple of lists on there, and they mentioned movies like “The Cabin in the Woods,” “Eddie: The Sleepwalking Cannibal,” and “Juan of the Dead.” Some of these I’d seen, others were new to me, so I jotted them down.
I also dug around for some more obscure titles. Came across this list of animated zombie films and a movie called “American Mary.” I mean, who doesn’t love a good zombie flick, right? And “American Mary” sounded intriguing with those names, Jen and Sylvia Soska. Had to add those to the list.
Of course, I couldn’t ignore the big ones that everyone talked about that year. “Prometheus” and “ParaNorman” were huge, and even though “Prometheus” wasn’t straight-up horror, it had some seriously creepy moments. “ParaNorman” was a fun one, kind of spooky but also family-friendly.
One of my personal favs from that year was “Sinister” which is just chilling and has some of the most unsettling scenes I’ve ever seen. It got a lot of hype, and for good reason.
After gathering all these titles, I made my own list and started watching. Some were a letdown, not gonna lie. But a few really freaked me out. Like, I had to pause and take a breather a couple of times.

Here’s what I ended up with:
- The Cabin in the Woods – This one was a trip. Totally messed with the usual horror tropes.
- Sinister – Seriously, this movie is nightmare fuel.
- The Pact – This movie is a slower burn but I think you guys will love it.
- American Mary – Definitely worth checking out if you’re into something a bit different.
- Apartment 143 – If you like found footage, this is one of the best of them.
So, there you have it. My deep dive into the scariest films of 2012. It was a wild ride, and I’m still shook from some of these movies. Let me know if you’ve seen any of these or if you have other recommendations from 2012. I’m always up for a good scare!
Stay spooky, folks!
