Alright, so them city folks at that Rolling Stone magazine, they went and made a list of the best drummers ever. Now, I don’t know much about all that fancy music stuff, but I know what sounds good, ya know? Like when you bang on a pot and it makes a good rhythm for dancing, that’s what I like.

First up, they got this John Bonham fella from Led Zeppelin. Folks say he hit them drums like a thunderclap. Never heard of him myself, but I guess he musta been somethin’ special. They say he played hard and loud, like a runaway train. That kinda music ain’t really my cup of tea, but I can appreciate a man who puts his heart and soul into somethin’.
Then there’s this other fella, Keith Moon, from The Who. Now, that sounds like a funny name, don’t it? Moon. Like the thing in the sky. I heard tell he was a wild one, that Keith. Broke his drums all the time, they say. Well, I guess that’s one way to make a statement. If you’re gonna be a drummer, might as well be a loud one, right?
- I ain’t never seen a drum set up close, but I imagine it’s a lot of things to hit.
- Must take a lot of practice to not just make a big ol’ mess of noise.
- But these fellas, they knew what they were doin’, I reckon.
Another name they mentioned was Ginger Baker. He played with some bands called Cream and Blind Faith. Now, I like cream in my coffee, but I ain’t so sure about this music. But if Rolling Stone says he’s good, I guess he must be. They seem to know what they’re talkin’ about, even if I don’t always understand it.
And get this, they even got a fella named Travis Barker on the list. Folks say he’s the fastest drummer alive today. Fastest drummer? I never even thought about drummers bein’ fast or slow. But I guess it makes sense. Some folks talk fast, some folks walk fast, why not drum fast?
Now, I heard tell they asked folks to vote on this list. Can you imagine? People sittin’ around votin’ on who’s the best drummer. What a world we live in. I guess it’s better than arguin’ about politics, though. At least with drummers, you can just listen and decide if you like ’em or not.
They also talked about Charlie Watts, from the Rolling Stones themselves. That’s right, the same magazine folks. Seems like they know their own drummer is somethin’ special. Now, the Rolling Stones, I heard of them. They been around forever, it seems. And if their drummer is one of the best, well, that’s gotta mean somethin’.

It’s funny, ain’t it? All these different folks, playin’ all different kinds of music, and they all get called “drummers.” It just goes to show ya, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, as they say. Or beat a drum, I guess.
I reckon bein’ a good drummer is more than just bangin’ on things. It’s about feelin’ the music, about makin’ people wanna dance, or tap their feet, or just listen. And it’s about workin’ with the other folks in the band to make somethin’ special. It’s like makin’ a quilt, everyone has their part and if they do it right you got somethin’ real nice at the end of it.
So, there you have it. A few of the best drummers, according to Rolling Stone. Like I said, I don’t know much about this stuff, but I know what I like. And I like a good beat, no matter who’s playin’ it.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens. All this talk about drums is makin’ me hungry.
But before I go, let me tell you this, the best drummer is the one that makes you feel somethin’. It don’t matter if they’re famous or not, fast or slow, loud or quiet. If they touch your heart with their music, then they’re the best. And that’s all there is to it.
