Okay, so I saw this list online, “250 Best Guitarists” from Rolling Stone, and I was like, “I gotta check this out.” So, I started digging into it.

My Deep Dive into the List
First, I scrolled through the whole thing. It’s a massive list, 250 guitarists, you know? I noticed right away some big names were missing, and I was like, “What’s up with that?” But then, I decided to focus on who was on the list.
- I recognized a bunch of the top names, obviously. Like, Jimi Hendrix at number one. No surprise there, the guy was a legend. I mean, they even say he’s “the most skilled and innovative guitar player of all time.” Hard to argue with that.
- Then I saw Keith Richards pretty high up. It said he was number 11 in 2023, but I remember him being 20 on some older list of the 100 greatest. Still, the dude’s a monster on the guitar, no doubt. He’s basically the sound of The Rolling Stones, even though they have other killer guitarists too.
Checking Out Some Favorites
After that, I started looking for some of my personal favorites. I found a few of them scattered throughout the list. It was cool to see where they landed, even if I didn’t always agree with the ranking.
I also discovered some new (to me) guitarists. I mean, with 250 names, there were bound to be some I hadn’t heard of. So, I spent some time listening to their stuff. It’s always fun to find new music, right?
My Final Thoughts
All in all, it was a fun way to spend an afternoon, going through this list. Of course, these kinds of lists are always subjective, and everyone’s going to have their own opinions. But it’s a good conversation starter, and it got me listening to some great guitar playing. You know the ones you can just really feel it in your chest?
And who knows, maybe I’ll even pick up my own guitar later and try to learn a few new licks. It’s been a while, but this list kind of inspired me. That or it just makes you feel like you could never play like those guys in a million years. Well, at least I can rock out to them and pretend I am right?
