I was just messing around online the other day, and you know how it goes, one thing leads to another, and I ended up thinking about band names. Specifically, I got stuck on bands with bird names. It got me thinking, how many bands out there actually have bird names? So, I started a little project for myself.

Started Digging
First, I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen and just started brainstorming. You know, the old-fashioned way. I jotted down every band name I could think of that had a bird in it. The Byrds, naturally, that was the easy one. Then I got the Eagles, and then I remembered Counting Crows. My list started growing, but it felt pretty small compared to what I suspected was out there.
Moved to the Computer
Next, I moved to my computer, and I opened a simple text document. I typed all the band names I had written down on the paper into the document, and I decided to organize them a bit, I grouped them by the type of bird. Like, all the “eagle” bands together, all the “crow” bands together, and so on. It was pretty basic, but it helped me see things more clearly.
Searched the Web
Then came the fun part, I started searching online. I just typed in things like “bands with bird names” or “bands named after birds” into the search bar, and looked through a bunch of articles and lists. Every time I found a new band name, I added it to my document. I was surprised by how many there were! Some were super obvious, like the ones I had already thought of, but others were way more obscure, like The Black Crowes and Hawk Nelson.
Created a Table
As my list grew, I decided to make it a little nicer to look at. So I copied everything into a spreadsheet program and turned it into a table. I made columns for the band name, the type of bird, and I even added a column for notes, where I could put any interesting little facts I found about the bands.
The End Result
I spent a good few hours on this, and my table ended up being way longer than I ever expected. It’s not perfect, and I’m sure there are still tons of bands I missed, but it was a fun little project. It made me appreciate the creativity that goes into naming bands, and it reminded me how much I love discovering new music. Maybe some other day I can do research about the bands that have borrowed something else in their names.
