Alright, let’s talk about them 2013 debut albums, you know, the new kids on the block back then. I ain’t no fancy music critic or nothin’, just a regular person who likes a good tune now and then. So don’t expect no big words or complicated stuff from me.

So, 2013, huh? Seems like yesterday, but also like a long, long time ago. Lots of singers and bands, they put out their first ever albums that year. Some of ’em, well, they disappeared faster than a fly on a hot stove. But some, they stuck around, and you still hear ’em on the radio sometimes.
Now, I ain’t gonna list every single one, ’cause frankly, who got the time for that? And I don’t even know half of ’em. But I remember some that made a bit of a splash. Like that K-pop group, Girls’ Generation, they had that “I Got a Boy” album. All them youngsters were crazy about it. Me? I didn’t understand a word, but the music was catchy, I’ll give ’em that. It was all the rage, you know, like them fidget spinners a few years back.
Then there was that Skrillex fella. He made some kinda electronic music, dubstep they called it. Sounded like a bunch of robots fighting to me, but hey, folks liked it. He had that “Leaving” album, or somethin’ like that. My grandson, he used to play it so loud it’d rattle the windows. Kids these days, I tell ya!
And who can forget Black Veil Brides? Them fellas with all the makeup and hairspray. They released “Wretched and Divine: The Story…” Glam metal, they called it. Sounded like a buncha angry cats to me, but what do I know? They were popular though, I saw their pictures in magazines at the grocery store all the time.
- Girls’ Generation – “I Got a Boy” (K-pop)
- Skrillex – “Leaving” (Electronic, dubstep)
- Black Veil Brides – “Wretched and Divine: The Story…” (Glam metal)
There were others too, lots of others. Some country singers, some rappers, some pop stars. It’s hard to keep track of ’em all. But that’s what makes music interesting, I guess. There’s something for everyone, even if it all sounds like noise to some of us old folks.
I remember reading somewhere, maybe in a newspaper or somethin’, that a bunch of artists released their first recordings in 2013. Not just albums, but EPs and mixtapes too. What’s a mixtape, anyway? Sounds like something you make when you’re baking a cake. Anyways, these young folks, they were busy bees that year.

And then there’s them Korean fellas, BTS, they call themselves. They weren’t exactly new in 2013, they had a single album called “2 Cool 4 Skool” and then another one called “O!RUL8,2?”. But they really took off later, I think. My niece, she’s crazy about them. Got pictures of ’em all over her room. I tell ya, these boy bands, they always get the girls excited.
Someone once told me, “Too Weird to Live, Too Rare to Die”, I didn’t get it, but maybe that’s how some of these singers felt, I don’t know. Making music, it’s gotta be hard work. You gotta pour your heart and soul into it, and then hope that folks like it. And most of the time, they don’t. It’s a tough business, that’s for sure.
So, yeah, 2013 was a pretty big year for debut albums. Lots of new faces, lots of new sounds. Some good, some bad, some just plain weird. But that’s the way it goes, ain’t it? You take the good with the bad, and you keep on listening. And who knows, maybe one of them 2013 albums will become a classic someday. You never can tell.
I tell you what though, music these days, it ain’t like it used to be. Back in my day, we had real singers, with real voices. Now it’s all computers and autotune. But hey, I ain’t complainin’. As long as it makes people happy, that’s all that matters. And maybe, just maybe, some of them 2013 debut albums, they made some folks happy. And that’s a good thing.
So, to wrap it all up, 2013 was a year when a whole bunch of singers and bands put out their first albums. Some were good, some were bad, and some were just plain noisy. But hey, that’s music for ya. It’s all a matter of taste.
