Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this Miller family and their house. Heard they got themselves one of them Extreme Makeovers. Yeah, the TV show, the one where they fix up houses for folks. The Millers, they live in Cheyenne, you know, that place out west. Sounds fancy, but their house, well, it wasn’t so fancy before. Heard it had some of that radon stuff, bad for your lungs they say. Made the place unlivable, poor things.

Now, this Extreme Makeover show, it ain’t new. Been around for years, they say. Started way back in 2004, ended in 2012. Nine whole seasons, that’s a lot of houses they fixed up. Musta been hundreds of families they helped. But it ain’t all sunshine and roses, you know. I heard tell some folks, they couldn’t keep up with the taxes and such after the makeover. Lost their houses, sad to say. Some even got foreclosed on, imagine that!
But the Millers, they seem like good folk. Folks were workin’ real hard on their house, builders and such from all over. That company, Kerstiens Homes and Designs, they were involved, and lots of other helpers too. They tore down the old place, the one at 11804 E. Four Mile Road, and built a brand spankin’ new one. All paid for by sponsors and donations, ain’t that somethin’? People are good sometimes, helpin’ out their neighbors.
- They say they finished it up on a Friday.
- Had a big reveal for the Millers, surprised ’em good I bet.
- Can you imagine seein’ your old, busted-up house turned into somethin’ brand new?
I remember hearin’ about that Riggins family too. They got a makeover years ago, and they’re still livin’ in it! Sixteen years later, and they still love that house. The mama, Linda, she says it showed God’s promises comin’ true. That’s real nice. She calls it “lived in” now, not all shiny and new anymore, but loved and lived in, just like a house should be.
And then there’s the Farina family, out in Indiana. They got a new house too, built from the ground up. Lots of work, lots of people helpin’ out. That’s what it’s all about, I reckon, folks helpin’ folks. This show, it seems like it changes lives, gives people a fresh start. But it ain’t easy, I tell ya. Heard they pick families that really need it, folks facin’ hard times or health problems. And then they just swoop in and fix everything up.
So, back to the Millers. I hope they can keep up with their new house. Taxes and bills, they can be a real burden. But I reckon they got a good community around ’em, folks that helped build the house and will help ’em keep it. It’s a big change, goin’ from a radon-filled shack to a brand new home. But if they stick together, and work hard, they’ll be just fine. It’s a blessin’, a real blessin’, to have a safe and comfortable place to call home.
Now, they didn’t say exactly what the Millers’ new house looks like, but I bet it’s somethin’ special. Probably got all them new appliances, fancy countertops, maybe even a big ol’ porch. Whatever it is, I hope they enjoy it. They deserve it, after all they been through. And I hope they remember to be grateful, and to pay it forward when they can. That’s the way it should be, ain’t it?

Anyways, that’s the story as I heard it. The Millers, Extreme Makeover, and a whole lotta folks comin’ together to build a home. Makes you think, don’t it? About how important home is, and how good it feels to help somebody out. I wish them Millers all the best, and I hope they enjoy their new home for many years to come. It’s a fresh start, a new beginning, and I hope they make the most of it.
