Well, hey there. Let me tell ya ’bout this Judy Collins. Folks sayin’ she passed on, and it got me thinkin’. I ain’t no fancy writer or nothin’, just a plain ol’ person, but I reckon I can tell ya what I know, or what I heard tell, anyway.
First off, this Judy, she was a singer. A real singer, not like them squawkin’ birds on the radio these days. She sang all sorts of stuff – folk songs, country tunes, even them Broadway show things. Been singin’ for donkey’s years, they say. Seven decades! That’s a whole lotta singin’, I tell ya. Musta been good at it, seein’ as how she won herself a Grammy. That’s a big deal, like winnin’ the blue ribbon at the county fair, but for music.
And get this, she wasn’t just singin’. They say she made movies too! Documentaries, they call ’em. Even got nominated for one of them fancy Oscar awards. Imagine that! A singer and a movie maker. This Judy, she was somethin’ else.
Now, there’s another Judy Collins, seems like. This one, she was down in Myrtle Beach, a real shagger, they say. Loved dancin’ that shag dance, whatever that is. Had herself a place called Judy’s House of Oldies. Sounds like a fun joint, full of old music and good times. Sad thing is, she passed away too. Makes ya think, don’t it? Two Judy Collinses, both gone.
- One sang her heart out for years and years.
- The other one shaked her booty and played old tunes.
This singin’ Judy, she was still goin’ strong even when she got old. Eighty-four years young, and still tourin’ and writin’ songs. And poems too! And somethin’ called prose, whatever that is. Sounds like she was a busy bee, always doin’ somethin’. Can’t sit still, I guess. Some folks are like that. Gotta keep movin’, gotta keep singin’, gotta keep shakin’.
Folks are lookin’ for her obituaries now, wantin’ to know when the funeral is and all that. They wanna pay their respects, say goodbye. It’s the right thing to do, I reckon. Showin’ some love for a person who brought joy to the world, whether it was through singin’ or dancin’ or just plain bein’ herself.

This Judy Collins, the singer one, she even got married twice, they say. Had a whole life, full of ups and downs, I imagine. Just like the rest of us. But she shared her life with the world through her music, and that’s somethin’ special. Not many folks can do that.
So, yeah, Judy Collins. A name that means somethin’ to a whole lotta people. A singer, a songwriter, a movie maker, a dancer, a wife, a person. She lived a long life, a full life. And now she’s gone. But her music, her movies, her memory, they’ll live on. That’s the way it is, ain’t it? We come, we go, but the things we leave behind, they stay. And that’s somethin’ to think about.
I ain’t no poet or philosopher, just tellin’ it like I see it. Judy Collins, rest in peace. You done good.
