Alright, so you’re lookin’ for some movies like “The Visit”, huh? That creepy flick with the weird grandparents? I get it. You like that shaky-cam, found footage stuff. Makes ya feel like you’re right there, doesn’t it? Like you’re peekin’ through a keyhole at somethin’ you shouldn’t be seein’.

Well, let me tell ya, there’s a whole bunch of movies out there just like that. They call it “found footage” or somethin’. I dunno why they gotta make up fancy names for things. It’s just people filmin’ stuff and then…well, bad things happen.
One of the first big ones, way back when, was this movie called “The Blair Witch Project.” That one scared the pants off folks. A bunch of college kids get lost in the woods, filmin’ everything. And then…well, you gotta see it to believe it. It ain’t got fancy special effects or nothin’, but it’s real spooky. If you liked “The Visit,” you might like this “The Blair Witch Project” thing. It’s got that same creepy vibe, ya know? People disappearin’, strange noises, things that go bump in the night. It makes you wonder what’s really out there in the dark.
Then there’s this other one, “REC.” It’s a foreign movie, I think from Spain or somethin’. But it’s got subtitles, so you can still understand it. It’s about a news crew that gets stuck in an apartment building, and somethin’ bad is happenin’ inside. Lots of screamin’ and runnin’ around. That one’s got some real nail-bitin’ moments, let me tell ya. It’s the kind of movie that makes your heart pound so hard you think it might jump outta your chest.
And if you like those, there’s a whole bunch more. “Paranormal Activity,” that’s one about a couple who gets haunted by a ghost. They set up cameras all over their house to catch it. “Cloverfield,” that’s one about a giant monster attackin’ New York City. And let me tell you that one got some noise it’s loud. And then there’s “V/H/S” and all them other ones with the letters. I can’t keep track of ’em all! There’s just so many of them nowadays.
- “Paranormal Activity” – Ghost stuff, creepy noises, things movin’ on their own. You know, the usual.
- “Cloverfield” – Big monster, lots of destruction, people runnin’ and screamin’. A real mess.
- “V/H/S” and others – A whole bunch of short scary movies all put together. Some are good, some are bad, but they’re all kinda creepy.
- “REC”– Apartment building, news crew, somethin’ evil lurkin’ in the dark. Not for the faint of heart.
- “The Blair Witch Project” – Woods, students, lost and scared, somethin’ watchin’ them. The one that started it all.
You can find these movies all over the place now. On them Netflix thingies, or Hulu, or whatever else them young folks are usin’ these days. They got all kinds of movies on there. Just gotta search for “found footage” or somethin’ like that. Or ask one of your grandkids, they probably know more about it than I do.
Now, I gotta warn ya, these movies ain’t for everyone. They can be pretty intense. Lots of jump scares, and creepy stuff. If you don’t like gettin’ spooked, then maybe you should stick to somethin’ else. But if you like that thrill, that feelin’ of bein’ right there in the middle of the action, then these found footage movies are right up your alley.

They ain’t pretty, mind you. Lots of shaky cameras and blurry pictures. But that’s kinda the point, ya know? It’s supposed to feel real, like you’re watchin’ somethin’ that actually happened. And that’s what makes ’em so scary. It makes you think, “Could this happen to me?”
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch on a dark and stormy night, somethin’ to give you a good scare, then check out some of them found footage movies. Just don’t blame me if you can’t sleep with the lights off afterwards! And remember, it’s all just make-believe. Mostly, anyway. You never know what’s really out there in the world, do ya?
This whole “found footage” thing, it’s like watchin’ home movies, but instead of birthday parties and family vacations, it’s all scary and messed up. I don’t know why folks like watchin’ this stuff, but hey, to each their own, I always say. Me? I prefer a good ol’ Western. But these young folks, they like their scares. And these movies, well, they got plenty of those.
Just remember to keep the lights on, and maybe have a friend watch with you. And if you hear somethin’ go bump in the night, well, don’t come cryin’ to me. You were warned!
