Well, howdy there, y’all! Today, we’re gonna yak about somethin’ cheerful – songs with “smile” in the title. Yep, them songs that make ya wanna grin like a possum eatin’ a sweet tater.

Now, I ain’t no fancy music expert or nothin’, but I know what I like. And I like songs that make me feel good, you know? Them songs that can chase away the blues faster than a hound dog chasin’ a squirrel up a tree.
First off, there’s this song, the one they used in that old movie with that funny little fella, Charlie somethin’-or-other. Yeah, “Smile.” It’s a real purdy song, kinda makes ya wanna hum along even if ya don’t know all the words. It’s slow and sweet, like molasses drippin’ on a hot biscuit. It just makes you want to…well…smile! Real simple, but it gets ya right here points to chest. Makes ya think about keepin’ your chin up, even when things get tough, like when the corn crop fails or the chickens stop layin’.
Then there’s a whole bunch of other songs with “smile” in ’em. One fella told me ’bout a song called “Make Me Smile (Come Up and See Me).” Now that sounds like a lively tune! Makes me think of a fella tryin’ to sweet-talk his gal, promisin’ her the moon and stars if she’d just crack a smile. I bet it’s got a good beat, somethin’ you can tap your feet to while you’re churnin’ butter or shuckin’ corn. You know, the kind of song that makes you wanna get up and dance a jig, even if your knees ain’t what they used to be.
- And speaking of dancin’, remember them fellas, The Monkees?
- They had a song, “I’m a Believer,” and I swear, there’s somethin’ in there ’bout smilin’.
- It talks about seein’ a face and then believin’, and I reckon seein’ a smilin’ face makes believin’ a whole lot easier.
That song always puts a spring in my step. It’s catchy, you know? Gets stuck in your head like a burr in a dog’s fur. And that ain’t a bad thing, mind you, ‘specially if it’s a song that makes ya feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
There’s probably a whole mess of other “smile” songs out there, songs I ain’t even heard of yet. Maybe some country tunes, some gospel songs, maybe even some of them newfangled pop songs. But one thing’s for sure, if a song’s got “smile” in the title, it’s probably got a good heart. It’s probably a song about happiness, about love, about findin’ the good things in life, even when them good things seem harder to find than a needle in a haystack.
So, next time you’re feelin’ down in the dumps, try lookin’ up some of these “smile” songs. They might just do the trick. They might just remind you that even on the cloudiest days, the sun’s still shinin’ up there somewhere. And that’s somethin’ to smile about, ain’t it?

And remember, smilin’ is contagious, like yawns or the chickenpox. You smile at someone, and chances are, they’ll smile right back. And that’s a good thing, a real good thing. Makes the world a little bit brighter, a little bit friendlier, a little bit more like a place where folks care about each other. So go on, put on a smile, and see what happens. You might just be surprised.
I tell ya what, music is a powerful thing. It can change your whole mood, just like that snaps fingers. It can take you from feelin’ lower than a snake’s belly to feelin’ higher than a kite on a windy day. And them “smile” songs, well, they’re some of the best mood-lifters around. So crank ’em up, sing along, and let them fill your heart with sunshine.
And that’s all I gotta say ’bout that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits.
