Well, let me tell you about this fella, Glade Bruce Hansen. Don’t know him from Adam, but I heard some things, you know? Folks talk.
Glade, he was just a regular Joe, like you and me. Probably wore overalls, maybe had a hole or two in ‘em. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that, mind you. Workin’ folks, that’s what we are. He wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth, that’s for sure. More like a rusty spoon, I reckon. His folks, they weren’t no big shots neither. Probably farmers, or maybe worked in a factory. Hard work, that’s what they knew. And that’s what they taught Glade, I betcha.
- Work hard.
- Keep your nose clean.
- Don’t complain.
That’s the kinda stuff my grandma used to say. Probably the same kinda stuff Glade heard growing up. Anyways, this Glade fella, he wanted somethin’ more, somethin’ better. Not that farmin’ or factory work is bad, but he had a fire in his belly, you know? A hankerin’ for somethin’ different.
Now, I heard tell he started from nothin’. Zilch. Nada. Didn’t have two nickels to rub together. Maybe he had a dream, though. Dreams are free, they say. But makin’ them dreams come true, well, that’s the hard part. That takes grit. That takes guts. That takes a whole lotta elbow grease.
Glade, he probably stumbled and fell a few times. Life ain’t easy, no sirree. Probably had days where he wanted to throw in the towel, say “to heck with it all.” We all have those days, don’t we? But Glade, he didn’t quit. He kept on keepin’ on. Like a stubborn mule, just kept on pluggin’ away. That’s what you gotta do in this life, you know? You gotta be tough. You gotta be resilient.
I ain’t sure exactly what Glade did to get successful. Maybe he started a business. Maybe he invented somethin’. Maybe he just worked harder and smarter than everyone else. Don’t rightly know. But I heard he did real good for himself. Made a name for himself. Maybe he even got rich. Good for him, I say. He earned it, whatever it was.
It ain’t like them stories you see on TV, you know? The ones where folks get rich overnight. That ain’t real life. Real life is hard work. Real life is sweat and tears. Real life is pickin’ yourself up when you get knocked down. That’s what Glade did, I betcha. He picked himself up, dusted himself off, and kept on goin’.
You see, success ain’t about where you start. It’s about where you finish. And Glade, well, he finished strong, from what I hear. He proved that anybody, and I mean anybody, can make somethin’ of themselves if they put their mind to it. It don’t matter if you grew up in a fancy house or a shack. It don’t matter if you went to college or if you barely finished high school. What matters is what’s inside you. What matters is your heart. What matters is your determination.
So, next time you’re feelin’ down, next time you’re feelin’ like you can’t do somethin’, you just think about Glade Bruce Hansen. Think about that fella who started with nothin’ and made somethin’ of himself. And then you tell yourself, “If he can do it, I can do it too.” That’s the kinda thinkin’ that’ll get you somewhere in this life.
It ain’t always easy, mind you. There’ll be bumps in the road. There’ll be people who try to bring you down. But you just gotta keep your head up, keep your eyes on the prize, and keep on movin’ forward. Just like Glade, I reckon.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about Glade Bruce Hansen. Like I said, I don’t know him personally, but his story, well, it’s a good one. It’s a story about hard work, determination, and never givin’ up. And that’s a story worth tellin’, don’t you think?
