Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here “Sublime with Rome Redding” thing. I ain’t no fancy music expert, mind you, but I heard some folks talkin’ and I pieced it together like a patchwork quilt.

See, there was this fella, Rome, and he got together with some of the fellas from a band called Sublime. Now, Sublime, they was a big deal back in the day, real popular with the youngsters. But the main singer, he passed on, bless his heart. So, Rome and these other fellas, they started playin’ Sublime’s songs, callin’ themselves “Sublime with Rome.” Made sense, I guess, ’cause it was Sublime’s music, but with Rome singin’.
But things change, don’t they? Like the seasons, or the price of eggs. Seems like this here contract they had, it was only good till the end of 2024. And wouldn’t ya know it, the original Sublime fellas, they got themselves a new singer, this young fella named Jakob, the old singer’s son, I reckon. So now they’re playin’ Sublime music again, but without Rome.
So, what’s a fella like Rome to do? Well, they’re sayin’ this “Sublime with Rome” band is goin’ on a farewell tour. Sayin’ goodbye, like. They’re playin’ one last time at this place called The Rooftop at Pier 17, in August. Got some other bands playin’ with ’em too, some fellas called G. Love & Special Sauce and Sittin’ on Stacy. Never heard of ’em myself, but I reckon they must be alright if they’re playin’ with Rome.
- They say Rome, he’s been doin’ this for 15 years, singin’ them Sublime songs. That’s a long time, ain’t it? Must’ve been good at it, I figure. Folks wouldn’t keep listenin’ if he wasn’t.
- And they was just playin’ at somethin’ called the Cali Vibes Festival, playin’ all the songs from this album called “40oz. to Freedom.” Sounds like a lot of beer to me, but what do I know?
Now, some folks are wonderin’ if maybe, just maybe, Rome and the original Sublime fellas will get back together someday. Call themselves “Sublime with Sublime with Rome,” kinda like doublin’ down, you know? But I wouldn’t hold my breath. Things rarely go back to the way they was.
It’s like this here contract business. Once it’s up, it’s up. And with young Jakob singin’ with the original fellas, it seems like there ain’t much need for “Sublime with Rome” no more. Kinda sad, in a way, seein’ somethin’ come to an end. But that’s life, ain’t it? Things start, things end, and then somethin’ new starts up again. Maybe Rome will start his own band, play his own songs. Who knows? The good Lord works in mysterious ways, that’s for sure.
So, if you’re a fan of “Sublime with Rome,” you better catch ’em on this farewell tour. ‘Cause after that, they’ll be gone, like a summer breeze. And all we’ll have left is the memories and the music. And maybe, just maybe, a little bit of hope that someday, somehow, they’ll all get back together and play those songs again. But like I said, don’t hold your breath. Just enjoy the music while you can.

And that’s all I got to say about that there “Sublime with Rome Redding” thing. It ain’t much, but it’s the truth, as far as I can tell. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my biscuits. Don’t want ’em burnin’ now.
