Well, let me tell ya, this “Kore ga Mahoutsukai no Kirifuda” thing, it’s somethin’ else, I tell ya. They’re makin’ a manga outta it, can ya believe it? Heard it from some folks, they said it was in some fancy magazine, “Monthly Dragon Age” or somethin’. Sounds like a dragon’s gotta age, just like us old folks, eh? Anyways, this fella, Hitsuji Tarou, he wrote the whole thing down as a light novel first. Now, what’s a light novel, you ask? Don’t ask me! Sounds like somethin’ them city folks read on them fancy phones of theirs.

So, this “Kore ga Mahoutsukai no Kirifuda,” it means “This is the Wizard’s Last Card” in them fancy words. A wizard, huh? Reminds me of that old coot down the road who claimed he could make it rain with a chicken bone and a whisper. Never did see it rain though, just a lot of squawkin’ chickens. But this wizard in the story, I bet he’s got some real tricks up his sleeve, not just chicken bones. And this “last card” thing, sounds important, like the last piece of pie at a church supper, ya gotta grab it quick before someone else does!
- They say it’s got a lot of action. You know, fights and spells and whatnot. Like them Saturday mornin’ cartoons my grandkids watch, all that bang-bang and whoosh-whoosh.
- And it’s a manga now, which means pictures! That’s good for me, ’cause sometimes them fancy words just go in one ear and out the other. Pictures, now, they stick in your head.
- I heard you can find more about it on somethin’ called “AniList.” Sounds like a list of animals, don’t it? Maybe they got wizards and dragons on there too. Who knows these days?
Now, this fella, Kadokawa somethin’-or-other, he’s the one puttin’ it all together. Sounds like he’s a big shot, makin’ books and mangas and whatnot. He’s the publisher, they say. Probably got a big ol’ office with fancy chairs and a coffee machine that makes more than just plain ol’ black coffee, like I drink. I bet he don’t even have to milk his own cows.
Some folks were talkin’ about somethin’ called “Bokutachi ga Sekai wo Horoboshimasu.” Don’t know what that is, but it sounds like trouble. Maybe it’s another one of them stories, or maybe it’s just somethin’ them youngsters say these days. They got their own language, ya know? Always mumblin’ about “updates” and “loggin’ in” and “no comments.” Makes my head spin, it does.
Anyway, back to this wizard and his last card. I reckon it’s gonna be a good story, full of magic and adventure and maybe even a little bit of romance, who knows? Them wizards, they always get the girls, even the old ones like me can see that on them TV shows. And if it’s got pictures, well, that’s even better. I can just sit back with a cup of coffee and let them pictures tell the story. No need to strain my eyes readin’ all them tiny words.
So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ new to read or watch or whatever it is you young folks do these days, maybe give this “Kore ga Mahoutsukai no Kirifuda” a try. Who knows, you might just like it. And if you don’t, well, you can always go back to them video games or them face-books or whatever keeps you busy. Me? I’ll stick to my chickens and my garden, but maybe I’ll sneak a peek at that manga when nobody’s lookin’. Don’t tell nobody, though. It’ll be our little secret.
Just remember the name, it’s a mouthful, that “kore ga mahou-something-something”. The wizard’s last trick, that’s what it is. Sounds important, maybe it’ll teach us somethin’ new, or maybe it’ll just be a good way to pass the time. Either way, it’s better than starin’ at the wall, I reckon.
