So, I got this idea to make a playlist. You know, one of those themed ones. I decided to go with “songs with ‘girl’ in the title.” Seemed simple enough, right? Well, let me tell you, it turned into a whole thing.

First, I started brainstorming. Just off the top of my head, I jotted down a few obvious ones like “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Uptown Girl.” That was easy, I’m feeling pretty good at this point. I thought, “I’ll knock this out in like 30 mins max.” Haha, how naive I was.
Digging Deeper
Then, I opened my music streaming service and began searching. I typed in “girl” and…wow. So many songs. A LOT of songs I’ve never even heard of, I got bands of all sorts of sounds and qualities. I started feeling overwhelmed almost immediately.
I decided I needed a system. So, I created a new playlist and started adding songs. I listened to snippets, trying to get a feel for each one. Some were instant adds, some were definite nos. But that’s were most of my time went, it took up HOURS.
The Genre Dilemma
Another issue: What genres was I looking for? Pop? Rock? Country? Everything? I didn’t restrict myself with any specific category of music. I just wanted to make sure I had a decent mix, so it wouldn’t be too repetitive, you know?
- Pop: So many choices here. It was almost too much.
- Rock: Found some real classics, some I’d even forgotten about.
- Country: Surprised by how many country songs fit the theme.
- Other: Everything from oldies to indie stuff. A real mixed bag.
I spent hours going through song after song. It felt like my ears started to deceive me, and songs were getting blurry. I took breaks, came back, listened some more. My initial goal was just like, 20-30 songs. A reasonable goal for a playlist, right? I mean, who really has time to listen to more than that?
Hitting the Goal (and Beyond)
Well, I blew past that. I ended up with 80 songs. 8-0. Eighty! I couldn’t believe it. I looked at the clock and realized I’d spent an embarrassing amount of time on this. But hey, I had my playlist. A mega-playlist, actually.

The result? A pretty epic playlist. I am pretty excited, cause it’s got a bit of everything, and it’s all tied together by that one simple word: “girl.” My friends think it’s a bit… excessive, but I’m happy with it.
