Okay, so I’ve been seeing this “5th generation of Kpop” thing pop up everywhere, and honestly, I was kinda lost. I mean, I keep up with Kpop, but I wasn’t sure what the actual dividing lines were between generations. So, I decided to do a deep dive and figure this whole 5th gen thing out. Here’s how I went about it, and what I found!

Digging for Info
First, I started with good old Google. Just typed in “5th generation kpop” and saw what came up. I found a bunch of articles and forum discussions, but it was all a bit overwhelming and, to be honest, not super consistent.
Then I moved on to YouTube. I figured there had to be some Kpop YouTubers who had tackled this. And yep, I found a ton of videos! Some were helpful, some were just people arguing about which groups belonged where, which, you know, typical internet.
Putting the Pieces Together
After watching a few videos and reading through some articles, I started to see some common threads. It seems like people generally agree that 5th gen started around 2023, with the 4th gen is begin around 2018-ish, but there’s still a lot of debate. A few key things I noticed that people were pointing to as markers of the 5th gen:
- New(er) Groups: Obviously, the biggest thing is the debut of a bunch of new groups.
- Changing Sounds?: Some people talked about a shift in the music, but honestly, I’m not sure I hear a HUGE difference yet. It’s still Kpop, you know?
- Global Focus: This isn’t exactly new, but it seems like 5th gen groups are even MORE focused on international fans from the get-go.
My (Very Unofficial) Conclusion
So, after all this “research,” I’m still not sure I have a definitive answer. It feels like the 5th gen is still forming, and we’re kind of figuring it out as we go. But I did get a better sense of which groups people are generally considering part of the 5th generation, and I definitely feel more informed about the whole conversation. For now, I think I’ll just keep listening to the music and enjoying the performances, and let the experts argue about the labels!
And this is the result of my exploration, I hope everyone to read my blog will get somthing.
