Oh, you know, back in December 2013, there was a bunch of movies, some big ones too. I remember people talkin’ a lot about that The Wolf of Wall Street. That one had that fella, Leonardo DiCaprio. Folks said it was all about money, greed, and some wild stuff. I never understood all them fancy city folks and their Wall Street business, but I heard it was a good watch if you like lots of drama and, uh, fast talkin’. That movie came out right before Christmas, on December 25th, so folks had something to watch during the holiday.
Another one folks were chattin’ about was The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. Now, I don’t know much about hobbits or dragons, but my grandkids were all excited. This was the one with that big ol’ dragon named Smaug. You see, they made this Hobbit story into a bunch of movies, and this was the second one, I believe. Came out on December 13th. All that magic and creatures, folks who like them fantasy things had a good time watchin’ it, I reckon.
And how could I forget American Hustle? Lord, I remember folks gossipin’ about that one too. It had a bunch of big stars, like Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence. From what I gathered, it was about some real shady stuff goin’ on with con artists back in the 70s. They even dressed up all funny-like, with them old-time clothes and crazy hair. Came out right in the middle of the month, on December 13th, same day as that Hobbit movie. People had choices, ya know.
Then there was The Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Now, this one was different. I heard it was more of a feel-good movie, not so much fightin’ and yellin’. Ben Stiller was the fella in this one, and he was imaginin’ all kinds of things. I think it was about a man who had big dreams but was stuck in his everyday life. That one came out on Christmas Day, same day as that Wolf of Wall Street. If you didn’t like all that business drama, you could watch this instead, I guess.
Now, I ain’t forgettin’ Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Oh boy, that one had folks laughin’ real hard. That Ron Burgundy fella, played by Will Ferrell, he was a newsman, and boy, was he silly. It was one of those movies that made folks just sit back and laugh without thinkin’ too hard. Came out a bit earlier, on December 18th, so it was there to lighten up the mood before Christmas. My neighbor’s son couldn’t stop talkin’ about it.
There were other movies too, but these were the ones that got the most talkin’. I guess December 2013 was a good time for movies, lots of variety. You had your dragons, your hustlers, your imaginations, and your newsmen. Different kinds of folks could find somethin’ they liked.
