Oh, now “Criminal Minds,” let me tell you about that show. It’s got some episodes that’ll keep you up at night, but one of the biggest ones folks can’t stop talkin’ about is called “A Beautiful Disaster”. Now, if you’ve never seen “Criminal Minds,” well, it’s all about these folks in the BAU — the Behavioral Analysis Unit, y’see. They’re always chasin’ down some nasty criminals, folks call ’em UnSubs, which just means “unknown subjects,” like the folks nobody can catch until these BAU folks come in, real smart and figure ’em out.

This episode, “A Beautiful Disaster,” happens right there in Season 11, and it’s episode 18 if you wanna look it up. Now, this episode’s a doozy, I’m tellin’ ya. It’s one of them shows where you know right away that somethin’ awful’s gonna happen. Starts with a bang, I tell ya, literally a bang. Poor Savannah, who’s Derek Morgan’s wife, gets shot by a sniper! Can ya believe it? Just mindin’ her business, and BAM! Shot. Now, this Derek Morgan fella — oh, he’s somethin’ else, he’s tough, but he loves his family like nothin’ else in this world.
So, Derek figures out this shooter, this UnSub, he’s after him, not even poor Savannah. Turns out this fella’s holdin’ a grudge against Derek. Somethin’ about blamin’ him for losin’ a kid of his own, you see. Well, it’s all sorts of twisted up, and Derek’s right in the middle of it, tryin’ to protect his family and figure out who’s behind all this craziness. He’s lookin’ out for Savannah and their unborn child too, poor thing’s got enough to worry about already.
Well, when Morgan finally gets his hands on this UnSub, it’s a powerful moment. He’s angry, he’s hurt, but he’s also a lawman, y’know? He does what he has to do, but it’s hard to let go. When all’s said and done, he knows that life’s just gettin’ too dangerous. Family’s more important, y’know? So, he decides to leave the BAU. Ain’t an easy decision, but when he looks at little Hank, named after his own father, he knows it’s the right one. Can you imagine that? Givin’ up a career, all for love and family.
And the way they wrapped up Morgan’s story — let me tell ya, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room, I betcha. Matthew Gray Gubler, he’s the one that directed it. They say he brought somethin’ special to this episode, really did. Makes you feel like you’re right there with ’em, just like family, feelin’ every bit of their heartache and joy.
If you haven’t seen “A Beautiful Disaster,” give it a go. It’s on all them streaming services now, like Paramount+, Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, and even Pluto TV — so no excuses! It’s a rollercoaster, but it’ll make you see how much these characters go through, just like the rest of us tryin’ to do right by their loved ones. Powerful stuff, I’m tellin’ ya.
