Oh, honey, you wanna know about them cop shows from the 60s? Back in my day, the TV was the best thing since sliced bread. Them shows, they was somethin’ else. All them cops runnin’ around, catchin’ bad guys. We only had a couple channels, you know, not like today with your fancy cable.

That Adam-12 Show
Now, there was this one show, Adam-12. It were about two cops, partners, you see. Drivin’ around in their car. Always somethin’ happenin’. Shootouts, car chases, you name it. It was created by some fellas named Robert A. Cinader and Jack Webb. They sure knew how to make a show, that’s for sure. It was a police procedural crime drama, whatever that means. Always some crime goin’ on in that show, Lord have mercy.
Baretta, McCloud, and Them Other Ones
- There was Baretta. He was a detective, all tough and such. I think that show started in 1975, so it was a bit later on.
- And that McCloud fella, he was a cowboy type, but a cop too. Dennis Weaver, that was his name. That show was on NBC. My neighbor, Mildred, she loved that Dennis Weaver. Thought he was the handsomest thing. It ran from 1970 to 1977. So, it was a bit later in 60s.
- And don’t forget about them Simon & Simon boys. Two brothers, detectives. Always arguin’ but they loved each other. They had a detective agency, always up to some detective stuff. Always some mischief those two were getting into.
Mannix Was a Tough One
Oh, and Mannix! That Mike Connors, he played Mannix. He was a tough one, that Mannix. Always gettin’ into fights. But he always got the bad guy in the end. Joseph Campanella was in it too, but I can’t recall who he played. They was always chasin’ criminals, solvin’ mysteries. Kept you on the edge of your seat, I tell ya.
Them Wacky Shows We Had
We also had them funny shows, not just cops. Batman, with all them crazy colors. And The Monkees, they were a hoot. Gilligan’s Island, always gettin’ into trouble. The Beverly Hillbillies, rich folks actin’ like they were poor. Green Acres, that city lady tryin’ to be a farmer. Bewitched, with the witchy wife. The Munsters, a whole family of monsters! Silly stuff, but we loved it.
That 87th Precinct
Then there was this one about the 87th precinct. In Manhattan, they said. Gritty, they called it. Based on some books by a fella named Ed McBain. Lots of crime in that neighborhood, always somethin’ bad goin’ down. It was a grim one, I tell ya. Not for the faint of heart. But some folks like that kind of thing.
Other Cop Shows I Kinda Remember
Lord, there were so many shows back then. Hard to keep ’em all straight. But I remember there was a whole bunch of them cop shows. Some from Britain, they said. We didn’t get all them channels, though. Just a couple. But we made do. There was a whole lot about the police and detectives. Seemed like every other show was about cops and robbers.
The Good Old Days of Television
We didn’t have all them fancy shows they have now. But we was happy. We’d all gather ’round the TV and watch them cop shows from the 60s. Good times, good times. And you knew the good guys would always win. That’s what mattered. Made you feel safe, you know? Like the world was alright. Even if it was just for an hour, you could forget your troubles and watch them cops catch the bad guys. Simple times, but good times.

They sure don’t make ’em like they used to. Nowadays, it’s all too complicated. Back then, it was just good, clean fun. Well, maybe not so clean with all them shootouts, but you know what I mean. Those were the days. When a cop show was a cop show, and you knew what you were getting. And we liked it that way.
