Well, howdy there! Today, we’re gonna talk about somethin’ real interestin’, somethin’ that gets them farm folks all riled up – bull names! Yep, you heard that right. Big ol’ bulls need names too, ya know. And it ain’t just any name, it gotta be a good one, a strong one, somethin’ that fits that big, snortin’ fella.

Now, I ain’t no expert, mind you, just an old gal who’s seen a bull or two in her day. But I know a thing or two about what makes a good bull name. First off, it gotta be easy to yell. When you’re out there in the pasture and that bull’s wanderin’ off, you gotta be able to holler his name loud and clear. Somethin’ like “Thor” or “Tank” works real good. Short and sweet, ya know?
Some folks like to name their bulls after tough things. Like, weather, for instance. I once knew a fella had a bull named “Tornado.” That bull was somethin’ else, let me tell ya. Fast as lightnin’ and strong as a… well, as a tornado! And then there’s names from them movies. I heard tell of a bull named “Red Dawn.” Sounds mighty impressive, don’t it?
- Strong Names: Thor, Tank, Bruiser, Rocky
- Weather Names: Tornado, Hurricane, Thunder
- Movie Names: Red Dawn, Black Sunday, Rambo
Then you got them names that just describe the bull. Big fella? Call him “Giant.” Got a temper? Maybe “Fury” is a good fit. Seen a bull once, black as night, they called him “Shadow.” Fit him like a glove, it did.
But here’s the thing, you can’t just go around callin’ any ol’ cow a bull. See, a grown-up lady cow, she’s a cow. And a grown-up fella cow, that’s your bull. The little ones, they got different names too. Little lady cow is a heifer, and a little fella cow, well, that’s an ox or a bullock. Confusin’, ain’t it? But that’s just how it is.
Now, some of these bulls, they get famous. Like that bull, “Bodacious.” They called him the “world’s most dangerous bull.” Mean as a snake, that one. Injured a bunch of them bull riders. There was this fella, Hedeman, got the worst of it. Breding and West, they got banged up pretty good too. Ridin’ bulls, that ain’t no easy job, let me tell ya.
Speakin’ of big, these bulls, they can get real big. I’m talkin’ more than two thousand pounds big! Imagine that! That’s a whole lotta bull, right there. So, you gotta have a name that fits that size, ya know? Somethin’ that commands respect.

So, if you’re lookin’ for a name for your bull, just remember a few things. Make it easy to yell, make it fittin’, and make it somethin’ you ain’t ashamed to holler out in the pasture. And don’t go callin’ no cow a bull, or them farm folks will think you’re plum crazy.
And that’s all there is to it. Namin’ bulls ain’t rocket science, but it ain’t somethin’ to take lightly neither. Them bulls, they’re part of the family, part of the farm. And a good name, well, that’s just the start of a good relationship. So go on out there and find yourself a good bull name. And remember, if you’re passionate about farmin’ or just love bulls, you’re in the right place.
Now get out there and find that perfect bull name! You can do it!
