Listen up, honey. We’re gonna talk about this Brooklyn Decker, you know, the one everyone’s gabbing about. No makeup, they say. Well, I seen pictures. She’s a pretty thing, ain’t gonna lie. But this no makeup business, it gets me thinkin’.

Now, I ain’t got nothin’ against makeup. A little rouge on the cheeks, some lipstick, it can perk you right up. But these young’uns, they’re always fussin’ about somethin’. One day it’s all paint and powder, the next they wanna scrub it all off and say, “Look at me, I’m natural!”
- Makes you wonder, don’t it? What’s real, what ain’t. Is she really waltzing around without a lick of paint on her face? Or is it that “no makeup makeup” they talk about? Sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me.
They say she’s “body positive.” Well, that’s good, I guess. But back in my day, we just called it bein’ comfortable in your own skin. We didn’t need fancy words for it. We had chores to do, mouths to feed. No time for frettin’ about how we looked. We just got on with it.
This Brooklyn gal, she’s married to that tennis fella, Andy somethin’. Lives down in Texas, I hear. Then moved to Charlotte. Fancy places. Bet she’s got a big ol’ house with folks to clean it and cook for her. Probably got a whole room just for her clothes and shoes.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I ain’t begrudgin’ her nothin’. She worked hard, I reckon, to get where she is. Modelin’, they say. Standin’ around in pretty clothes, gettin’ your picture taken. Sounds easy enough, but I bet it ain’t all sunshine and roses.
But this no makeup thing, it still sticks in my craw. It’s like they’re tryin’ to tell us somethin’. That we should all be barefaced and natural? Well, maybe so. But what about the wrinkles and the spots and all the other stuff that comes with gettin’ older?
- Ain’t nothin’ wrong with wantin’ to look your best. If a little powder and paint helps a woman feel good, then more power to her.
They say this Victoria Jackson woman started this “no makeup makeup” thing way back in the eighties. One lipstick, that’s all she used. Well, good for her. But I ain’t buyin’ it. Lipstick ain’t makeup? Don’t make no sense.
And they go on about moisturizin’ and SPF and all that. Says you gotta take care of your skin, even if you ain’t wearin’ makeup. Well, duh. Course you gotta take care of your skin. Wash it good, keep it outta the sun too much. That ain’t nothin’ new.
So, this Brooklyn Decker, she goes around without makeup, or so they say. Maybe she’s just lucky. Got good genes or somethin’. Maybe she spends a fortune on fancy creams and treatments. Who knows?
What I do know is this: A woman’s face is her own business. If she wants to wear makeup, let her. If she don’t, that’s her choice too. And if she wants to pretend she ain’t wearin’ makeup when she really is, well, that ain’t hurtin’ nobody. It’s all just smoke and mirrors, ain’t it? Just like everything else these days.
