Okay, so, today I’m gonna share with you my journey of compiling the best metal albums ever. It’s been a wild ride, let me tell you.

First off, I started by looking at some of the big lists out there. You know, the ones from Rolling Stone and those other music sites. I grabbed a bunch of these lists, figuring they’d be a good starting point. Most of them mentioned albums like “Painkiller,” “Rust in Peace,” and “Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory”. I created a new document and copied them.
Then, I began digging through my own collection and remembering all those epic metal concerts I’ve been to over the years. It was like flipping through an old photo album, each album cover bringing back a flood of memories. I spent hours just reminiscing and making notes.
After that, I hit up some online forums and metalhead communities. I asked around, started some heated discussions, and got tons of recommendations. Man, metal fans are passionate! They guided me a lot. I created a new list for recommendations from these metal fans.
Filtering and Combining Lists
With all this data in hand, I had to sift through it. I made a massive spreadsheet. It was a beast, with columns for album names, artists, release dates, ratings, and notes on why each album was significant. Then I merged all the lists I got from websites and forums and tried to filter out duplicates.
Next, I started the painful process of cutting down the list. I had to make some tough calls, weighing each album’s impact, its musicality, and its historical significance. I mean, how do you compare “Black Sabbath” with “Slayer”? Different beasts, but both legendary.
Compiling the Final List
I ended up with a list of 100 albums that I felt really represented the best of the best. This wasn’t just about popularity; it was about influence, innovation, and that raw energy that makes metal so damn good. I arranged them in order, I think it took me a whole day just to finish this part.

- I started with classics, you know, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest. Those are the godfathers; you gotta respect the roots.
- Then I moved into the thrash era, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer. That was an intense period for metal, and it really shaped the genre. “Rust in Peace” is amazing, and “One” from “…And Justice for All” is just iconic.
- I also included some European death metal bands like Emperor. They brought a whole different flavor to the mix.
- And of course, I had to add some Dream Theater, their work in progressive metal is outstanding.
Finally, I wrote up a little blurb for each album, explaining why it made the cut. This was the fun part, where I got to share my personal connection to each album and why I thought it deserved a spot on the list.
So, that’s pretty much how I did it. It was a labor of love, and honestly, a bit of an obsession for a while there. But I’m stoked with how it turned out, and I hope it gets people talking, arguing, and most importantly, listening to some killer metal. Because at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about, right? The music. I’m not sure if my list is correct, but it’s truly from my heart. I’m gonna share it with the community later.
Keep it metal, folks!
