Okay, so I wanted to rank the best actress winners. You know, from the Oscars. I’m a big movie buff, so this was right up my alley.

First, I grabbed a list of all the Best Actress winners ever. That took a bit of digging. The Academy’s website is kind of a maze. I found a few good lists on some movie fan sites, though, which was a relief. I compiled all the names and the movies they won for. There were more than I realized!
Then, the hard part. I started watching, or rather rewatching, a lot of these movies. Some of them are super old. I made sure to focus on the performances, not just the movie itself. Like, was the acting really that good? Did it make me feel something?
I decided to take notes on each performance. Just some quick thoughts, you know? What I liked, what I didn’t, and how it compared to other performances I’ve seen. This part took the longest, for sure. Some of these ladies really poured their hearts out on screen.
After watching and making notes, I began to rank them. This was tough. Everyone has their favorites. I tried to be objective, but, of course, it’s all subjective in the end. I mean, how do you really compare, say, Meryl Streep in “Sophie’s Choice” to someone like Michelle Yeoh in “Everything Everywhere All at Once”? They’re both incredible, but so different!
I also noticed that Katharine Hepburn has won four times! Four! For “Morning Glory”, “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”, “The Lion in Winter”, and “On Golden Pond”. That’s crazy impressive.
- Morning Glory (1933)
- Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (1967)
- The Lion in Winter (1968)
- On Golden Pond (1981)
Discovered Bette Davis won twice, too. I’ve only seen one of them, but now I’m adding the other one, “Jezebel”, to my must-watch list.

- Dangerous (1935)
- Jezebel (1938)
Anyway, I finally managed to put together a ranked list. It’s just my opinion, of course. I’m sure some people will disagree, and that’s fine. It’s all about sparking a conversation, right?
This whole thing was a fun project. It reminded me why I love movies so much. It’s amazing how much a good performance can stick with you. I might do the Best Actor winners next. Or maybe directors. We’ll see!
