Okay, so today I decided to dive into something that’s been on my mind for a while – band names that are inspired by birds. It’s kinda random, I know, but I always thought it was a cool concept. Where do you even start with something like that? Well, I just started, and here’s how it went.
The First Step: Brain Dump
First, I just grabbed a piece of paper and a pen. Yeah, old school, I know. But sometimes it’s just faster to get the initial ideas flowing that way. I started jotting down any bird-related band names I could think of off the top of my head. Stuff like “The Eagles” popped up immediately – classic, right? Then came “The Byrds,” also super obvious.
Going Deeper with Google
After my brain was pretty much tapped out, I fired up Google. I kept it simple, searching things like “bands named after birds” and “bird-inspired band names.” This opened up a whole bunch of lists and articles. I didn’t read everything word-for-word, more like skimmed through to see if anything jumped out.
I started making a list in a simple text document. Nothing fancy, just copying and pasting names that seemed interesting or that I hadn’t thought of myself. I wasn’t too worried about duplicates at this point, just getting everything down.
Filtering and Organizing
Once I had a pretty massive list, I started cleaning it up. I got rid of the duplicates and also started removing names that weren’t strictly bird-related. Like, I found a few that were more about flying in general, and I decided to keep the focus tight. It’s my list, so I make the rules, you know?
Then, I tried to organize them a bit. I thought about doing it alphabetically, but that felt boring. Instead, I kinda grouped them by type of bird, very loosely. Like, I put all the “hawk” related names together, then the “owl” ones, and so on. It wasn’t perfect, but it gave the list some structure.
The Final(ish) Product
Here’s a peek at what I ended up with (it’s still a work in progress, honestly):

- The Eagles
- The Byrds
- Counting Crows
- The Black Crowes
- Arctic Monkeys( I do not think they should included in this list, haha)
- …and a bunch more!
It’s definitely not exhaustive, and I’m sure I missed a ton. But it was a fun little project, and it gave me something to think about. Maybe I’ll even try to find some music by these bands that I’ve never heard of. Who knows, maybe I’ll discover my new favorite band this way!
My plan is find more bands, and I will put it into the list, it is interesting!
