Okay, so today I decided to dive into Japanese culture through film. I’ve always been fascinated by it, but never really knew where to start. So, I thought, why not watch some movies? Sounds easy enough, right?

Getting Started
First, I needed to figure out what to watch. I didn’t want just any old Japanese movie. I wanted something that really showed off the culture. I did a little googling using things like “best films japanese culture” and “movies about japanese traditions,” that kind of stuff.
I ended up making myself a little watchlist based on what I found.
The Watchlist
- Like Father, Like Son:Some thing family stuff and how important it is.
- Departures: Looked like something ceremonies and traditions.
- Sweet Bean:Seemed to have to do with food which is super important .
- Shoplifters:This one kept popping up,seemed that focus on the society.
My Movie Marathon
I grabbed some snacks, made myself comfortable, and started with “Like Father, Like Son.” Honestly, I really get it. It made me think about *’s slow-paced, but really makes you think.
Next up was “Departures.” Wow. Just wow. It was about a guy who becomes a “Nokanshi” – someone who prepares bodies for cremation. Sounds a bit intense but show something of the traditions, It’s a beautiful and respectful look at how they handle death and the rituals surrounding it. I even teared up a bit, not gonna lie.
After that, I watched “Sweet Bean.” This one was about an old woman who makes dorayaki (those little pancakes with red bean paste). It shows how much care and tradition goes into even simple things. Made me hungry, too!
Finally, I watched “Shoplifters.” This one was a bit different – about a family who shoplifts to survive. I got a little about how the society are *’s a very thought-provoking movie, and I’m glad I watched it.

Final Thoughts
So, that was my day of exploring Japanese culture through film! It was so much more interesting than just reading about it. I feel like I got a little peek into some different aspects of Japanese life and traditions. I’m definitely going to do this again – maybe with a different theme next time!
