Man, I gotta tell you about this little project I started the other day. It’s all about those celebrities with gap teeth. You know, those famous folks with that signature space between their front teeth? I always thought it was kinda cool, a unique feature that makes them stand out. So, I got this idea to dig up some before-and-after pics of these celebs and see how their smiles have changed over the years.

I started with a simple list. Just jotted down names of celebrities I knew had or used to have a gap. Madonna, of course, was the first one that popped into my head. Then there’s David Letterman, Mike Tyson, and Zac Efron. These are the names I could easily remember, so I wrote them on the list.
Then, the fun part began. I dove into the internet, searching for old photos. It was like a treasure hunt, going through pages and pages of images. I found some real gems! Young Madonna with that adorable gap, David Letterman back in his early days. I also found that there are some people who had special treatments to change their teeth, like braces, whitening treatments and others. These processes are kind of complex and costly. There was also this rapper, Kanye West, who spent $850 on his teeth. Imagine that! It’s crazy. I could never spend that much on my teeth. It is way beyond my budget.
For each celebrity, I tried to find at least one “before” pic and one “after.” I saved them all in a folder on my computer, organizing them by name. It was cool to see how some embraced their gap, like Lauren Hutton, who became a big-time model with her unique look. Others, like Zac Efron, seemed to have closed theirs up at some point. Not sure how, maybe braces or something. I don’t know what they used to fix it, but it must’ve been expensive.
Here’s what I put together:
- Madonna: Found a great old photo of her. Gap and all. She’s always been a trendsetter.
- David Letterman: This one was a bit tougher, but I managed to find a pic from his early career. Classic Letterman smile.
- Mike Tyson: He’s got a pretty noticeable gap, and it hasn’t changed much over the years.
- Zac Efron: This one was interesting. I found some teen pics where he definitely had a gap, but it’s gone now.
- Lauren Hutton: She’s a legend. Embraced her gap and became a supermodel. So cool.
I learned that this gap, called a midline diastema, is actually more common in some groups of people. So some people find them beautiful while others are ashamed of them. I also learned that some people used some kind of wax to cover it up. Man, I can’t imagine what that must’ve been like. It must have been a real pain. Anyway, it was a fun little project. Made me appreciate those unique smiles even more.
