Oh boy, you won’t believe the rabbit hole I went down today trying to figure out the top scary movies from 2007. I’ve always been a huge horror fan, and 2007, man, that was a good year for getting the pants scared off you.

So, I started off just googling around, you know, the usual “best horror movies 2007.” The first few things that popped up were the classics, like [REC] and The Orphanage. I remember seeing [REC] in theaters, and let me tell you, that shaky cam did not sit well with my stomach, but it was effective! And The Orphanage, that one stayed with me for days. Creepy kids, man, they get you every time.
Then I stumbled upon some forum discussions, and people were throwing out all kinds of titles. I saw some votes for Grindhouse, which is more of a fun, campy horror, but hey, to each their own. And a lot of people were hyping up I Am Legend. That one’s more sci-fi horror, but the scene with the dog? Forget about it. I’m still not over it.

- I Am Legend
I decided to dig a little deeper, and that’s when things got interesting. I found this site called “Letterboxd” where people were making their own lists. One list had Rogue on it, which I’d completely forgotten about! Giant crocodile? Yes, please. Then there was The Poughkeepsie Tapes. Now, I’m a seasoned horror vet, but that one… that one messed me up. Found footage taken to a whole new level of disturbing.
Diving into The Deep End
I kept going, checking out different websites and “best of” lists. It seemed like every site had a slightly different take, but a few movies kept popping up: 1408 and The Mist. I remember seeing both of those in theaters. 1408 with John Cusack, trapped in that crazy hotel room. That movie played mind games with you. And The Mist, that ending! Still one of the most shocking endings in horror history, if you ask me. Then I remembered the movie Paranormal Activity. That one used the found footage and had such a creepy vibe.
So, after hours of researching, reading, and reminiscing, I think I’ve got a pretty good handle on the top scary movies of 2007. It was a wild ride, and it just confirmed what I already knew: 2007 was a killer year for horror. Literally.
