Alright, let’s talk about this crazy band, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. I got into them a while back, and man, they’ve got a ton of albums. So many, it’s kinda nuts. I thought, “Hey, why not try to listen to all of this and see what sticks?” So that’s what I did. I dove headfirst into their discography.

I started with their early stuff, you know, the first things they put out. Some of it was pretty rough, I gotta be honest. But you could see the potential. Then I kept going, moving through their albums in order. It was a journey, let me tell you. Some albums I loved right away, like “Mindfuzz”. Seriously, almost every song on that album is a banger. The weakest one is maybe “Satan Speeds Up” but even that is good. Other albums took a bit to grow on me.
One thing I noticed is how much their sound changes. Like, they’re not afraid to experiment. One album is garage rock, the next is psychedelic, and then they’ll throw in some jazz or something completely out of left field. It’s wild! I even started paying attention to their album artwork. Turns out, it is made by the same guy Jason Galea who also did most of their music videos. Very talented!
I remember when I got to “Nonagon Infinity.” Man, that album blew my mind. It’s like one long song, all connected. It just flows so well. I had that one on repeat for days. That album begins with a long song suite. And don’t even get me started on “Microtonal Banana.” That’s a weird one, with all those microtones. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but once it clicks, it’s amazing. It might be number 16 on this list, but “Banana” might be Gizzard’s number one best-named album ever.
Listening to all their stuff in order like this was a cool experience. I saw how they evolved as a band, how they tried new things and refined their sound. It’s like watching a band grow up in fast forward. They show no fear.
So yeah, that’s my story of diving deep into the King Gizzard discography. It was a wild ride, but totally worth it. Now I have my favorite albums, my least favorites, and a whole new appreciation for this incredibly unique and talented band.
