So, I was browsing online the other day, trying to find some movies to watch with the kids. They’ve been really into “Despicable Me” lately, and with the new “Despicable Me 4” just hitting the theaters, I thought it’d be fun to find some similar flicks.

First, I opened up my trusty browser and typed in “movies like Despicable Me 4”. I got a bunch of results right away. There was this one site, Letterboxd, that listed a whopping 79 films similar to it! Can you believe it? 79! They even mentioned that their film data comes from TMDb, which I thought was pretty neat.
Then, I stumbled upon another site that had a curated list of 20 movies that are perfect for family movie nights. They described them as “fun-filled” and “heartwarming”, which sounded exactly like what I was looking for. The kids love those kinds of movies, you know?
I also started reading about how “Despicable Me” is this beloved animated film that has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide. It talked about its charming characters and heartwarming story. I mean, who doesn’t love Gru and the Minions, right? That made me even more excited to find similar movies. Gru’s story is so funny and touching. And the Minions? They’re a riot! I’ve caught myself laughing out loud at their antics more times than I’d like to admit.
I found another article, it listed the “50 Best New Animated Movies”. It mentioned something about “Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl”, which I guess is the first feature with that stop-motion duo since 2005. That’s a long time! But it’s not really like “Despicable Me”, so I moved on.
I kept digging and learned a bit more about “Despicable Me 4” itself. Apparently, it’s about Gru and his family relocating to a safe house because his old rival, Maxime Le Mal, is seeking revenge. Sounds pretty intense! The article also mentioned that this new villain, Maxime Le Mal, is going to be a big part of the movie. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out. It’s always interesting to see a new villain shake things up. I remember when El Macho was introduced in “Despicable Me 2”. That was a wild ride!
There was even some talk about “Despicable Me 5”. They said it’s not official yet and it could take a few years before it’s even greenlit. Apparently, they started planning “Despicable Me 4” back in 2017, but it wasn’t formally announced until 2022. That’s a long wait! I can’t imagine waiting that long for another Minions movie. We just got “Minions: The Rise of Gru” in 2022. I guess good things come to those who wait, right?

Anyway, I made a list of all the promising movies I found and showed it to the kids. We decided to start with a few that sounded the most fun. It was a bit of a process, but hey, that’s the fun of discovering new movies, right? I thought I’d share my little adventure with you all. Maybe you’ll find some new favorites for your own family movie nights! It’s always great to have a go-to list of movies that you know everyone will enjoy. Plus, it’s a great way to bond with the kids and make some lasting memories.
