So, I wanted to find some shows that were kinda like “Primer”, you know? That movie messed with my head in the best way possible, and I was itching for more of that time-travel, mind-bending goodness. I started by just Googling around, typing in stuff like “shows similar to Primer” and “time travel shows”, you know, the usual stuff.

I ended up going through a bunch of websites and let me tell you, there’s a lot of stuff out there. I saw mentions of shows like “Fringe,” which I’d heard about before. It’s got that sci-fi vibe, and time travel is a part of it, so that seemed like a good place to start. I also noted down “Dark” and “12 Monkeys” because I saw them pop up a few times on different lists.
Here’s what I did next:
- I started watching “Fringe” first. I figured it would be a good way to ease myself into the whole time-travel thing again.
- While watching “Fringe”, I read more about “Dark” and “12 Monkeys.” I wanted to see what other people were saying about them. I skimmed through some reviews, trying to avoid spoilers, just to get a feel for the shows.
- After a few episodes of “Fringe,” I decided to check out “Dark.” It’s a German show, and the whole atmosphere is just so different. It’s got this really intense and mysterious vibe, and the time travel aspect is super complex.
- Then I jumped into “12 Monkeys.” This one’s based on the movie, which I also liked. It’s more action-packed than “Dark,” but the time travel stuff is still pretty intricate.
Honestly, both “Dark” and “12 Monkeys” really delivered that “Primer”-like feeling I was looking for. They’re both shows that make you think, you know? You gotta pay attention to all the details, and even then, you’re still trying to piece everything together. It’s like a puzzle, and I love that. But these two shows are not the end of my search, I also watched “Lost”, “Steins;Gate”, “The Devil’s Hour” and some other shows.
I also tried a few other shows that were mentioned on those lists, but they didn’t quite hit the spot. Like, “The Peripheral” and “Paper Girls” were okay, but they were more about alternate realities than straight-up time travel. And “Manifest” was more of a mystery drama, with the time travel being a smaller part of the story.
The Result
In the end, I found a few shows that I really enjoyed and that gave me that same brain-twisting satisfaction as “Primer.” “Dark” and “12 Monkeys” were definitely the standouts, but “Fringe” was a good one too. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s got that same kind of complex, thought-provoking storytelling. If you’re looking for shows like “Primer,” I’d definitely recommend checking those out. You won’t be disappointed. It was a fun little project, diving into all these different shows and figuring out which ones scratched that “Primer” itch. And I’m always on the lookout for more, so if you’ve got any recommendations, let me know!
