Well, let me tell ya, I heard a thing or two about them songs with “tears” in the name. Lots of folks like them sad songs, I reckon. Makes ’em feel something, you know? Like that Classic Tearjerkers thing, from Time-Life, I heard about it. Says it’s got all them sad songs that make you wanna cry. Even them tough guys, they say. They get all choked up listening to them sad songs. This old lady here, me? I like a good cry sometimes, too. It’s good for the soul, they say. That word, “Tearjerkers,” that’s a good one. Sums it up real nice.

And that Stevie Wonder fella, he’s got one called “Joy Inside My Tears“. Now ain’t that something? Joy and tears, all mixed up together. Sounds like life to me, that’s for sure. Good times and bad times, all rolled into one. He sings good, that Stevie. Heard him on the radio a time or two. Makes you think, his songs do. This one’s from 1976, double album. Big deal, huh? I remember 1976. Different times, for sure.
Then there’s that “Crying” song, by Roy, Ray, Roy Orbison, that’s it! Roy Orbison. He’s got that voice, you know? Makes you feel all sad and lonely, even if you ain’t. Good way to start talking about them sad songs, I reckon. ‘Cause that one, that’s a real tearjerker, that is. This Roy fella, he knew how to sing a sad one, for sure.
They say them old songs, from the 60s, them big ballads, they can be real scary intense. Like, they get right down into your heart and squeeze it real hard. Make you feel all kinds of things you didn’t even know you could feel. That’s something, ain’t it? Them old songs, they got power. Not like some of that stuff they play on the radio these days.
Let’s see, there’s a bunch of ’em with “tears” in the title. One’s called “96 Tears,” ain’t that a lot of tears? Then there’s “Tears On My Pillow“. Sounds like someone’s been having a real hard time, crying themselves to sleep. And them Miracles, with Smokey, they got two of ’em. “The Tracks Of My Tears” and “The Tears Of A Clown“. That clown one, that’s a sad one, ain’t it? A clown, supposed to be all happy and funny, but he’s crying. Makes you think, don’t it?

Folks say that sad music, it makes you feel like you ain’t alone. Like other people feel sad, too. They call it “empathy”. Big word, huh? Means you feel what other people are feeling. And they say feeling that, that empathy, it can feel good, even though it’s sad. It’s like, you’re all in it together, you know? All us sad folks, listening to them sad songs, feeling sad together. I can see that, yeah, it’s like a big ol’ group hug with tears.
This whole thing about songs with tears in the title, it’s a big deal. Lots of folks like to listen to ’em. I guess everybody needs a good cry sometimes. Gets it all out, you know? Like wringing out a wet rag. And these songs, they help you do that. They give you permission to cry, almost. Like it’s okay to feel sad, and it’s okay to let it out.

And I heard tell there’s a whole bunch of these songs, not just the ones I mentioned. They say there’s a whole world of sad songs out there, just waiting for you to listen to ’em. And some of ’em, they say, they’re so sad they can break your heart. But in a good way, you know? Like a good, clean break. Then you can start to heal.
So, if you’re feeling down, or you just need a good cry, maybe you should listen to some of these songs with tears in the title. Might do you some good. You can find lists of them if you search for that, “songs with tears.” I reckon it’s good to let it all out sometimes. Just don’t forget the tissues. You gonna need a big box for some of them songs, that’s for sure. And don’t be afraid to feel sad. It’s part of life, ain’t it? Just like that Stevie Wonder song says, there can be joy in them tears, too.
