Well, howdy there, y’all! Let’s talk about them space movies, the ones like that Star Trek thing my grandkids keep blabberin’ about.

You know, the ones with the spaceships and all that jazz. I reckon there’s a whole heap of ’em out there, some good, some not so much. Let’s see if I can remember some of the names that them young’uns told me. They said if you like Star Trek, you might like some other space shows.
One they mentioned was this “Forbidden Planet” thing. Said it was old, like me, but good. Something about a planet and… I dunno, somethin’ forbidden, I guess. They talk so fast, these kids, hard to keep up.
Then there was this long-winded title, “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.” A thousand planets? Good Lord, that’s a lot of places to keep track of! Sounds like a busy place, not peaceful like my little ol’ farm.
- There’s one they called “StarCrash” from back in ’78. Sounds like a wreck in the sky, if you ask me.
- And “Battle Beyond the Stars” from 1980. Lots of battlin’, I bet. These space folks sure do like to fight, don’t they?
- Then they said somethin’ about a “Message from Space” in ’79. Wonder what the message was? Probably somethin’ important, like “Don’t forget to feed the chickens,” or somethin’ like that. I always say, chickens are more important than space if you’re hungry.
There’s this movie about space and time being all twisted, they called it “2001: A Space Odyssey”. And another one, they called “Interstellar”, about folks going off to find a new home ’cause Earth was all messed up. Folks leaving Earth… I don’t know about that, this ol’ Earth is good enough for me. Always has been.
And then they mentioned one called “The Martian.” About a feller stuck on Mars, all alone. Poor feller, I hope he had enough taters to eat. Nothin’ worse than bein’ hungry and alone, I tell ya.
Then there’s some others they called “Solaris”, “Contact”, “Arrival” and “Gravity”. All about space and stuff. My head starts spinnin’ just thinkin’ about it. And one with lights in the sky, they called it “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”. Now, I seen plenty of stars in my time, but I ain’t never seen no lights doin’ fancy tricks like they said was in this movie.

Now, that “2001: A Space Odyssey” again, from 1968, that’s a long time ago, before most of y’all were even a twinkle in your daddy’s eye. They said it was kinda artsy and didn’t have much of a story, but it was purdy to look at. Like a fancy quilt, I guess, all them stars and colors.
And they talked about “Apollo 13” from 1995, said it was real-like, about folks goin’ to the moon. That one, I kinda get. It’s like drivin’ a tractor, but in space. Gotta keep things runnin’ smooth, or you’ll end up in a ditch, or worse, floatin’ off into nothin’.
Speaking of space shows, they told me this Star Trek thing was kinda like that Star Wars thing. But Star Wars, they said, was more like them old samurai movies and cowboy movies all mixed together. I reckon I understand that better. Good guys, bad guys, lots of shootin’ and hollerin’. That’s somethin’ I can get behind. Though I prefer a good old fashioned hoe-down to all that shootin’.
Anyways, they said this Star Trek thing is about folks explorin’ space, meetin’ new folks, and sometimes fightin’. Sounds like a lot of work to me. I’d rather be sittin’ on my porch, sippin’ lemonade. But if you like that kinda thing, there’s plenty of them movies to keep you busy. Just remember to eat your veggies and get some sunshine, or you’ll end up lookin’ like one of them pale space aliens.
So, there you have it. A whole bunch of space movies, just like that Star Trek thing. If you like spaceships, aliens, and folks flyin’ around in the sky, you’ll have a whole heap of movies to watch. Just don’t forget to come back down to Earth every now and then, ya hear?
And remember, these young’uns talk fast, so if you miss somethin’, just ask ’em to say it again. Or better yet, just watch the movies. Actions speak louder than words, as they say, even in space, I reckon. They said something about using keywords for the internet machine so folks can find what they’re lookin’ for. Keywords like “space movies”, “similar to Star Trek”, “science fiction films” and “space exploration movies.” So if you’re lookin’ for more of these here space stories, you use them words and the internet machine will help you out.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens. They’re more important than any space show, I tell ya.
