Hey there, y’all! Let’s gab a bit about somethin’ I saw on that there picture box the other day – them black game show hosts. Don’t rightly know why they call ’em that, but I reckon it means they’s got that dark skin like me. Anyways, let’s get to it.

Game shows, you know, them things where folks win money or cars or whatever. Always been a fan, even if I don’t always get the answers right. Used to watch ’em with my ol’ man, rest his soul. He’d always be yellin’ at the TV, “Pick the other door! Pick the other door!” Lord, he was a hoot.
Now, back in the day, seems like all them hosts was white fellas. Not sayin’ that’s bad or nothin’, just sayin’ that’s how it was. But times, they is a-changin’, ain’t they? These days, you see all sorts of folks hostin’ them shows, and that’s a good thing, I reckon. Diversity, they call it. Means everyone gettin’ a chance, no matter what they look like.
- I remember seein’ this one fella, real smooth talker, had everyone laughin’. Don’t recall his name, but he was good. Made the show fun, you know?
- And then there’s this lady, real sassy and quick-witted. She don’t let nobody pull no fast ones on her. Keeps them contestants on their toes, that’s for sure.
It’s important, I think, for young’uns to see folks like them on TV. Gives ’em somethin’ to look up to, shows ’em they can be anything they want to be. Black excellence, that’s what they call it now. Means black folks doin’ great things and gettin’ recognized for it. And it ain’t just game shows, mind you. It’s everywhere you look – doctors, lawyers, teachers, even presidents! Who’d a thunk it?
Now, I ain’t sayin’ everythin’s perfect, mind you. Still plenty of folks out there who don’t see things the way they should. But we’re makin’ progress, slow and steady. And seein’ them black game show hosts smilin’ and laughin’ and makin’ folks happy, well, that’s a step in the right direction, I reckon.
I heard tell of some fella, Adam Wade, they say he was the first black game show host way back when. Must’ve been tough back then, folks not bein’ used to seein’ a black man in that role. But he paved the way, I guess. Opened doors for others to follow.
And then there’s that young gal, Keke Palmer, they say she just won some big award for hostin’ a game show. First black woman to do it, they say. Good for her! Shows them young girls that anything’s possible if you put your mind to it.

It ain’t just about the hosts neither. The shows themselves are changin’, showin’ more black folks as contestants too. And that’s important, you see, ’cause it shows the world that we’re all just folks, tryin’ to make our way in this life. We laugh, we cry, we get excited, we get disappointed. We ain’t no different, no matter what color our skin is.
So, next time you’re watchin’ one of them game shows, take a minute to appreciate the folks who are makin’ it happen. The hosts, the contestants, the folks behind the scenes. They’re all workin’ hard to bring us some entertainment, and they’re doin’ a darn good job, I reckon. And if you see a black game show host smilin’ back at ya, give ’em a little nod, let ’em know you see ’em, let ’em know you appreciate ’em.
Celebrating black excellence, that’s what it’s all about. Recognizin’ the achievements of black folks and givin’ ’em the credit they deserve. And it ain’t just a one-time thing, it’s somethin’ we should be doin’ every day. ‘Cause black folks are doin’ great things all the time, and we need to make sure the world knows about it.
I tell ya, it warms my ol’ heart to see all this changin’. Makes me hopeful for the future. Maybe one day, we won’t even have to talk about “black” game show hosts or “white” game show hosts. They’ll just be game show hosts, and that’ll be that. But until then, we’ll keep celebratin’ the progress we’ve made, and we’ll keep fightin’ for the day when everyone gets a fair shake.
And that’s all I got to say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make myself some supper. All this talk about game shows has made me hungry! Y’all take care now, ya hear?
