Alright, alright, lemme tell ya ’bout this show, “ER” they call it. Don’t rightly know what that stands for, some fancy doctor stuff I reckon. But it’s on the TV, and lemme tell ya, it’s somethin’ else.

This “ER” thing, it’s all about a hospital, a big city one, not like the little clinic we got down the road. Folks are always rushin’ and shoutin’, and there’s blood and machines and all sorts of goings-on. Makes my head spin sometimes, but you can’t help but watch.
They say it’s got a bunch of seasons, like 15 or somethin’. That’s a whole lotta TV, I tell ya. But folks say it’s good, even at the end. They kept makin’ it, so I guess people liked it. Me? I just watch when it’s on. Don’t much care how many seasons there are.
One time, there was this girl, poor thing, found all beat up outside her school. Raped, they said. Awful business, just awful. The doctors, they tried to help her, but it was rough. Made me think of my own grandbabies, you know? Just breaks your heart, it does.
And then there’s this Jerry fella, and Abby, she’s pregnant, bless her heart. They get shot! Can you believe it? Right there in the hospital! Chaos, I tell ya, pure chaos. They had to fix the whole place up after that. Folks were flyin’ around, tryin’ to save ’em. Don’t know if they made it or not, but it sure was somethin’ to see.
- They got all kinds of doctors in there. Some young, some old. Some nice, some not so nice.
- And the nurses, they’re the real backbone, I tell ya. Always runnin’ around, doin’ the dirty work. They’re the ones who keep that place goin’.
- And then there’s the patients, all sorts of ’em. Sick folks, hurt folks, babies bein’ born, people dyin’. It’s a whole lotta life in one place.
Now, they say this show is worth watchin’. And I reckon it is. Even if you don’t understand all the doctor talk, you can still see the people. You can see ’em hurtin’, and hopin’, and lovin’, and losin’. That’s what it’s all about, ain’t it? Just people tryin’ to get by.
There’s this fella, Tony Gates, a paramedic. He comes back as an intern, a new doctor I guess. And Kovac, he’s one of the main doctors, always serious-lookin’. He gets sued, can you believe it? Folks sue doctors all the time these days, seems like. Then he has to go back to his own country, Croatia, to take care of his pa. Life’s complicated, ain’t it? Even for doctors.

So, if you got nothin’ better to do, and you see this “ER” show on the TV, give it a watch. It might make you cry, it might make you laugh, it might even make you think. But mostly, it’ll just show you a whole lotta folks tryin’ to make it through the day. And that’s somethin’ we can all relate to, ain’t it?
I watched it a bunch when they showed it again over the summer. It is exciting. It gets your heart pumpin’, that’s for sure. All that running around and yellin’. And there is always some drama happening. Somebody getting sick, somebody getting hurt, somebody falling in love. They even said they wanted to keep making more, but I guess it was time to stop.
Overall, they say this ER show, even after a whole lot of seasons, is still the best of those kind of TV shows. Makes you think. Maybe it does have something special after all.
