Well, howdy there! Let me tell ya, I don’t know much about fancy stuff, but I do know a thing or two about songs. And wouldn’t ya know it, some of ’em got “house” right there in the title. Yep, house, like the place you live in, where you eat your grits and cornbread, ya know?

So, I got to thinkin’, what kind of songs got “house” in ’em? Lots, it turns out. Some are happy, some are sad, some make ya wanna tap your feet, and some make ya wanna cry into your apron. It’s all kinds, just like life, I reckon.
Songs about happy houses, now those are somethin’. They make ya think of home, of family gatherin’ ’round the table, of kids laughin’ and playin’. You know, the kind of house where the smell of apple pie is always in the air. These songs, they make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like a cozy blanket on a cold winter night. They remind you of the good times, the laughter, and the love that filled those walls. They’re about places where you feel safe and loved, where you can always be yourself.
- “Our House” by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, now there’s a song. It’s all about love and warmth and a happy home. Makes ya wanna snuggle up with your loved ones, that’s for sure.
- “The House That Built Me” by Miranda Lambert. Lord, that one tugs at your heartstrings. Talks about goin’ back to the place where you grew up, the place that made you who you are.
But then, there’s the other kind of house songs. The sad ones. The ones about houses that ain’t homes no more. Maybe somebody left, maybe somebody died, maybe the house itself fell apart. Those songs, they make ya feel a lump in your throat, like you swallowed a whole biscuit without chewin’ it.
These songs talk about heartbreak, loss, and the pain of leaving a place you once called home. They’re about the emptiness left behind when someone is gone, and the memories that haunt the halls. They can make you feel lonely and nostalgic, longing for a time that’s passed.
- “House of the Rising Sun” – Oh, that one’s a real tearjerker. Talks about a place of sin and misery, a place where dreams go to die. It’s a warning, that one is, tells ya to be careful where ya lay your head.
- “Empty House” by Tracy Byrd is another sad one. It’s all about missin’ someone, about how a house ain’t a home without the people you love. It hits you right in the gut, that song does.
And then you got your house music. Now, I don’t know much about that fancy stuff, but I hear it’s got a beat that makes ya wanna move. Boom, boom, boom, it goes. Makes the young folks dance, I reckon. It’s all about rhythm and energy, makes you feel alive and want to move your body. I hear they play it in them big city clubs, the ones with all the flashin’ lights. Not my cup of tea, but to each their own, I always say.
Songs about building a house, those are pretty special too. They’re about dreams and hard work and makin’ somethin’ of yourself. They’re about puttin’ down roots and creatin’ a place where you can build a life. They remind you that with enough effort, you can achieve your goals and create a place of your own.

But no matter what kind of house song it is, they all got one thing in common: they’re about more than just bricks and mortar. They’re about the people who live in those houses, the memories that are made there, and the feelings that those places hold. They’re about life, love, loss, and everything in between.
So next time you hear a song with “house” in the title, take a listen. You might be surprised at what you hear. You might laugh, you might cry, you might even wanna get up and dance. But one thing’s for sure, it’ll make you think about home, and that’s somethin’ we all can relate to, ain’t it?
And that’s all I got to say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some biscuits.
