Well now, let’s talk about this Taylor girl and her singin’ records. Folks keep jabberin’ on ’bout which one’s the best, so I figured I’d throw my two cents in, even if it ain’t worth much. You know, like when you’re at the market and everyone’s squawkin’ over which tomatoes look the ripest, but you just grab the ones that feel right.

First off, that Midnights album, the new one everyone’s fussin’ about. It’s alright, I guess. Some songs get stuck in your head like a catchy tune on the radio, but some just go in one ear and out the other. It ain’t bad, but it ain’t the best thing since sliced bread neither. Folks seem to like it though, so good for her.
Now, this Speak Now record, they say it used to be kinda ignored. Like a wallflower at a barn dance. But seems like folks are comin’ around to it now. It’s got some real heart, you know? Like when you’re tellin’ a story ’round a campfire and everyone’s listenin’ real close. That’s how that album feels. I heard some young people call it “underrated” or somethin’ like that, seems fancy.
Then there’s Lover. Oh boy, folks get real worked up about this one. Some love it like a cat loves catnip, some can’t stand it like a dog hates baths. Me? I’m somewhere in the middle. It’s got some pretty tunes, but it ain’t my cup of tea all the time. It’s like that fancy dessert at the church picnic, looks nice but a bit too sweet for my taste.
- Fearless: This one, she was just a young’un. Songs are catchy. Reminds me of them spring chickens clucking around.
- Red: Now this one has some pep! Like a good strong cup of coffee. Gets you moving and shaking. Some sad songs too though, like when your prize pig runs away.
- 1989: This is when things got real big for her. Like when the corn crop comes in real good and you got more than you know what to do with. Catchy tunes, you hear them on the radio all the time.
And what about that Reputation record? Folks say she was feelin’ a bit prickly when she made that one. Like a porcupine all puffed up. It’s got a different sound, kinda edgy, like a rusty old saw blade. Not my favorite, but some folks like that kind of thing.
Now, some folks think I’m crazy for saying this, but I actually like that ME! song. Yeah, I know, people say it’s too sugary, but sometimes you just want somethin’ sweet, you know? Like a big ol’ slice of apple pie after a long day of workin’ in the fields.
So, if you ask me to rank them, I don’t know. It’s like tryin’ to pick your favorite grandchild, they all got somethin’ special. But if I had to choose, I’d say Speak Now is like that sturdy old oak tree in the pasture, been there forever and always reliable. Then maybe Red for when you need a little kick in your step, and Midnights for somethin’ new to listen to while you’re doing chores. And that ME! song, well, that’s for when you just wanna feel good, even if it ain’t fancy or perfect.

But that’s just my opinion, and like I said, it ain’t worth much. You gotta listen for yourself and decide what you like. Just like pickin’ out a good watermelon, you gotta thump it and see what sounds right to you. And don’t let nobody tell you your taste is wrong, ’cause music is like a good quilt, it’s supposed to keep you warm and comfortable, no matter what pattern it is.
Wildest Dreams, now there’s a song that sticks in your head. Pretty tune, even if I don’t always understand what she’s singin’ about. Reminds me of them hazy summer days, when the air is thick and the crickets are chirpin’ loud.
So there you have it. My thoughts on this Taylor Swift gal and her music. Take it or leave it, it don’t matter to me none. I got my chickens to feed and my garden to tend to, but it’s nice to sit a spell and jaw about somethin’ different for a change.
