Well, let me tell ya ’bout them Naruto cards, you know, the ones them kids are always yappin’ about. They call it a “collectible card game,” sounds fancy, but it’s just pictures on cardboard to me.
Back in 2002, they started makin’ these things, somethin’ called Shonen Jump’s Naruto Collectible Card Game. Long name, huh? I reckon it’s about some ninja kid, Naruto Uzumaki, who wants to be the big boss, the “Hokage.” Sounds like a lot of work to me. Kids these days, always dreamin’ big.
Anyways, they got all sorts of cards. Some are plain, they call ’em “Common,” got none of them little dots on the bottom. Then there’s the “Uncommon” ones, with one dot, a bit harder to find, I guess. And the real fancy ones, the “Rare” ones, they got two dots. More dots, more worth, that’s how it goes, just like them chickens, more eggs, more money, simple as that.
- Common cards: Easy to find, like weeds in the garden.
- Uncommon cards: A little harder to get, like a good rain in the summer.
- Rare cards: The real treasures, like finding a twenty-dollar bill on the road.
They sell these cards in packs, and sometimes in tins. I saw one of them tins, they called it “Ultimate Ninja Way,” had two packs inside called “Series 4 Revenge and Rebirth.” Sounds scary, all that revenge and rebirth stuff. I prefer a good ol’ soap opera, much less complicated.
Now, these cards, they got pictures of all sorts of characters from the Naruto show. Ninjas and their fancy moves, “jutsu” they call it. Sounds like somethin’ my grandson would yell when he’s playin’ in the yard. They use these cards to “battle” each other, just like kids used to do with rocks and sticks, only now it’s with pictures. Times sure have changed.
I heard tell they stopped makin’ this particular Naruto card game and started makin’ new ones, somethin’ about “Shippuden” and “Boruto.” But them new ones, they weren’t no good, didn’t stick around long. Seems like folks liked the old ones better. Just like how I like my old cookin’ pots, they work just fine, no need for newfangled things.

You can find these cards all over the place, even on that “eBay” thing the kids are always talkin’ about. They got whole lots of ’em, sometimes 42 cards, sometimes more than 50. Some are used, some are new, some are even in those unopened tins. Prices are all over the place too, depends on how many dots them cards got, I reckon.
And just recently, I heard they started makin’ new Naruto cards again, somethin’ called Topps Animax 2024 Official Naruto Collectible Card Game. Says they got special insert cards in each pack. Don’t know nothin’ ‘bout that, but sounds like they’re tryin’ to make a comeback. Just like them old country singers, always comin’ back for one more show.
So, that’s the gist of it. These Naruto cards, they’re just pictures on cardboard, but folks seem to like ‘em. They trade ‘em, they battle with ‘em, they even spend good money on ‘em. Me? I’d rather spend my money on a good cup of coffee and a slice of pie, but to each their own, I always say.
If you find some of them old 2002 cards, hold on to ‘em, they might be worth somethin’ someday. Or maybe not, what do I know? I’m just an old lady who likes her garden and her peace and quiet.
