Alright, let’s talk about this… uh… “tems spirituality,” whatever that means. Sounds fancy, but I’ll tell ya, it’s just about feelin’ things deep down, you know? Like when you look up at the sky and think, “Well, ain’t that somethin’?”

This Tems girl, she’s singin’ about God. Now, I ain’t no preacher, but I reckon everyone talks to somethin’ bigger than themselves sometimes. Maybe it’s God, maybe it’s the wind, maybe it’s just that big ol’ oak tree in your yard. She released this song, “Me & U,” back in October 2023. Folks say it’s about her and God, like a conversation. Like she’s sayin’, “Hey God, it’s me, whatcha think about all this?”
She was talkin’ to some fella on the radio, Zane Lowe, I think his name was. Said she was in a “spiritual state” when she made the song. Now, I don’t know what that means exactly, but I guess it means she was feelin’ things real strong-like. Like when you get that shiver down your spine durin’ a good hymn at church, or when you see a newborn baby and your heart just melts. That’s the kind of feeling she was on about I reckon.
What is this “spirituality” anyway?
Some smart fella, Bill O’Hanlon, wrote a book about spirituality. He called it the three C’s. First, you gotta feel connected to somethin’ bigger than yourself. Like I said, God, the wind, whatever. Second, you gotta have compassion, which is just fancy talk for feelin’ for other folks. And third, you gotta contribute, gotta give back to the world somehow. That’s just bein’ a good person, ain’t it?
- Connection: Feelin’ like you’re part of somethin’ bigger.
- Compassion: Givin’ a hoot about others.
- Contribution: Doin’ your part to make the world a better place.
Now, some folks think you gotta go to church to be spiritual. But I don’t think that’s the whole story. You can find God anywhere, even if you don’t call it God. Some folks say God is energy, and that energy is spirit. Sounds complicated, but I think it just means that there’s somethin’ powerful and unseen all around us. Like when you feel a breeze on your face, you can’t see it, but you know it’s there. That’s kinda how spirit is, I guess.
This Tems girl, she’s puttin’ her feelin’s into music. That’s her way of connectin’ to somethin’ bigger and sharin’ it with the world. Folks are sayin’ she’s makin’ her mark on the music scene, leavin’ her mark, just like a good rain leaves its mark on the earth. It’s all about feelin’ things and sharin’ them, whether it’s through singin’, helpin’ a neighbor, or just sittin’ quietly and thinkin’. That’s spirituality, as far as I can tell. It ain’t about fancy words or complicated ideas. It’s about livin’ a good life and feelin’ connected to somethin’ bigger than yourself. That’s what this Tems girl is singin’ about, I reckon. And that’s somethin’ we can all understand, no matter how fancy they try to make it sound.

This song, “Me & U,” Billboard magazine said it’s about her lookin’ at herself through her relationship with God. And another fella, Shawn Grant, he said she’s makin’ her mark on the world with this song. Well, I reckon they’re both right. She’s singin’ about her feelin’s, and that’s touchin’ other folks. That’s the power of music, ain’t it? It can take somethin’ personal and make it universal. And that’s kinda what spirituality is all about too, I suppose.
So, there you have it. That’s my take on this “tems spirituality” thing. It ain’t rocket science, just good ol’ fashioned feelin’ and doin’. And that’s somethin’ we all know a little bit about, even if we don’t always have the fancy words to say it.
